As you may have heard, City Council voted 4-3 to delay any decision on
approval of line changes to a part of CH Blvd from CH Road bridge to
University after several business owners shared concerns about potential
negative impact to their businesses. We expect it to be reconsidered June
15.. In the meantime, we in the neighborhood are sharing studies supporting
positive benefits of street diet with businesses.

Here is one article about a study on the exact same road change that showed
no negative impact on businesses. Please share widely.

I am personally asking that you speak to businesses you frequent along this
street this week and weekend. Share your concerns about the street safety -
lots of accidents have been recorded but near misses are not and I know
I've had many "almosts" as I slow to turn into a business. Please also
share your support with City Council at: council at durhamnc.gov

That the businesses and residents didn't come together to discuss before
Monday's meeting speaks volumes about our need to connect. 11:30pm was not
the time for them to hear that we do care about their businesses and feel
strongly that this will be good for business. Area residential
neighborhoods all support the road diet. We've tried to connect with
businesses before.

I hope we can communicate better this week. Wouldn't it be a fantastic
outcome that we find a way to organize our RockLongLoosa [my personal
working title] area to work on even more improvements together!
