Second Quarter Crime Report Shows Increase in Part 1 Violent and Property Crimes

City Encourages Property Managers and Landlords to Help Homeless Veterans
To promote thriving neighborhoods and access to affordable and healthy housing for all, the City is encouraging property managers and landlords to help homeless veterans. Project Manager Matt Schnars explains how landlords are compensated.

General Merchant Businesses No Longer Need Privilege License Tax
Businesses in Durham that do not sell beer or wine no longer need a privilege license from the City. Effective July 1, the Privilege License Tax for General Merchant Businesses was repealed by the N.C. General Assembly. Beer and wine licensing continues to be in effect, which impacts approximately 570 Durham businesses.


New Sidewalks and Bike Lanes Coming to Morreene Road
New sidewalks and bike lanes along a section of Morreene Road are one step closer to becoming reality. The City received federal funds to construct sidewalks and bike lanes on Morreene Road between Neal and Erwin Roads. Construction is expected to be done by summer 2020.
