City Council Supports Creation of County-Wide Task Force on Child Sex Trafficking
The Durham City Council is supporting the creation of a county-wide task force<http://www.durhamnc.gov/agendas_new/2015/cma20151019/10741_MEMO_CHILD_TRAFFICKING_378669_663575.pdf> on child sex trafficking. The Durham-Orange Women Attorneys group and Council Member Eddie Davis recommended the resolution because Durham is located near interstates, which are prime locations for child sex trafficking to occur.

City Council Reaffirms Capital Improvement Project Priorities
The City Council has reaffirmed its capital improvement project priorities<http://www.durhamnc.gov/agendas_new/2015/cws20151019/10727_MEMO_LONG_TERM_CAPITAL_NEEDS_378198_663674.PDF>. Twenty-four projects have been identified for funding at some point over the next 10 years. Of those, three have been designated as high priorities - an athletic tournament site, new sidewalk construction, and station area strategic infrastructure.

City to Purchase 318 Acres of Land to Allow for Future Lake Michie Expansion
The City will purchase approximately 318 acres of land to allow for the future expansion of Lake Michie. The Land and Buffer Acquisition Program<http://www.durhamnc.gov/agendas_new/2015/cma20151019/10732_MEMO_LAKE_MICHIE_ACQUISITION_O_378232_663131.PDF> allows the land to be bought in advance to protect the drinking water supply from future development.


Project to Remove Large Trees Encroaching on City Easements Set to Get Underway
A project<http://www.durhamnc.gov/agendas_new/2015/cma20151019/10720_MEMO_SR-62_EASEMENT_MAINTENANC_378224_663804.PDF> to remove large trees that are encroaching on City easements is about to get underway in order for critical infrastructure to be maintained. Several locations have been identified where trees need to be removed.
