Durham Named 2015 Digital Cities Survey Winner
City Wins 8th Place in its Population Category

DURHAM, N.C. - The City of Durham has been nationally recognized for its technology use to improve transparency with residents and operate more efficiently with taxpayer dollars.

e.Republic's Center for Digital Government<http://www.govtech.com/cdg/> and the Digital Communities Program<http://www.govtech.com/dc/> announced the top-ranked cities in the 2015 Digital Cities Survey<http://www.govtech.com/dc/digital-cities/Digital-Cities-Survey-2015-Winners-Announced.html> with the City winning 8th place in the 125,000-249,999 population category. According to the Digital Cities Program, the City's Technology Solutions Department<http://durhamnc.gov/830/Technology-Solutions> deserved recognition in this year's competition for a number of reasons, including its recently launched open data platform<http://durhamnc.gov/1487/Open-Government>, continued investment in IT infrastructure to back-up its data center, and the in-progress development of a Durham One Call<http://durhamnc.gov/1439/Durham-One-Call> mobile service application.

Now in its 15th year, the Digital Cities Survey is part of the Center for Digital Government's Digital Communities program, which focuses on collaboration among cities, counties, and regions. Open to all U.S. cities, the survey focuses on 10 initiatives across four categories: citizen engagement, policy, operations, and technology and data. Responses are reviewed and judged based on a set of criteria and how well the cities implemented these services across the entire city.

This is the sixth award won by the City's Technology Solutions Department this year. In June 2015, the department won five awards<http://www.pti.org/news/displaynews.asp?NewsID=229&TargetID=3> for technology use to improve service delivery from the Public Technology Institute (PTI)<http://www.pti.org/default.asp>.

About the Technology Solutions Department
The Technology Solutions Department<http://durhamnc.gov/830/Technology-Solutions> aligns the City's information technology infrastructure and systems to the business needs of the City's departments. It designs, implements, and maintains the technology hardware, applications, and programs.
