Search for New Durham Police Chief Moves Forward
The search for the next police chief is moving forward. Deputy Chief Larry Smith will serve as interim police chief<http://nc-durham.civicplus.com/DocumentCenter/View/8046> starting January 1, following the retirement of Chief Jose Lopez on December 31. Developmental Associates<http://durhamnc.gov/DocumentCenter/View/7967>, the firm selected to conduct the search for the next chief, has started the process by hosting two community forums<http://nc-durham.civicplus.com/DocumentCenter/View/8072> next week for residents as well as a website<http://bit.ly/durhampolicechiefsearch>.

Community Input on Police Services to be Incorporated Into Department Assessment
Recent public input about police services in Durham is now being incorporated into an independent assessment of the department. The International Association of Chiefs of Police held a community input session<http://durhamnc.gov/DocumentCenter/View/7966> on December 3 to evaluate how police services can be improved.

Emergency Communications Center Earns International Accreditation
The Durham Emergency Communications Center has earned an important international re-accreditation<http://nc-durham.civicplus.com/DocumentCenter/View/7949>. For the third consecutive time, the center has achieved accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies.


Kwanzaa Celebration December 30
A Kwanzaa celebration<http://durhamnc.gov/1651/Kwanzaa> will be held on Wednesday, December 30 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Holton Career and Resource Center. This free, family-friendly event will feature entertainment by local and regional artists.
