Durham Human Relations Commission Hosts
“Faith, Fear and Freedom” Film and Forum
 
The City of Durham Human Relations Commission is holdingan open forum to engage residents in an effort to combat the rising tide ofIslamophobia, and to learn how to be better neighbors to local Muslimcommunities.
 
The forumis scheduled for Monday, February 29, 2016, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Durham County Main Library, 300 N. Roxboro St. Theprogram will include a screening of the 2012 WRAL Documentary, “Faith, Fear and Freedom,”  by award-winning journalist DavidCrabtree.
 
Immediatelyfollowing the film screening there will be a panel featuring four, localcommunity members:
 
·  Manzoor Cheema, Muslims for SocialJustice
·  Kiah Glenn, Duke University Centerfor Muslim Life
·  Sajdah Nubee, Huffington PostBlogger
·  Sa’id Abdul-Salaam, Jamaat IbadAr-Rahman Masjid
 
The forumis in support of statements endorsed by the Durham City Council in December 2015that stated, “The City of Durham Human Relations Commission strongly condemnsrecent comments suggesting that Muslims be banned from entering the UnitedStates as reprehensible, unconstitutional, and unAmerican. We believe thatpeople of all, and no, religious beliefs must be respected and embraced.
 
Thisevent is supported by Durham Congregations in Action,DurhamCares, and the RotaryClub of Durham.
