The Durham Human Relations Commission invites you to join us in efforts to advance civil and human rights here in Durham.

April 15, 2016:  Nominations Due for Human Relations Awards

 The Commission seeks nominations of Durham residents for its annual Human Awards:  Carlie B Sessoms Award;  Housing Award, Human Rights Awards; and Human Rights Youth Award.  Nominations are due by April 15, 2016.

 April 28:  Human Relations Ceremony

 Recipients of the Human Relations Awards will be announced on April 28, 2016 at 6 p.m. at Holton Career Center, 401 N Driver St, Durham, NC 27703

 The ceremony's keynote speaker will be Alabama civil rights lawyer, G. Douglas Jones.  Mr. Bell led the team of prosecutors and investigators in the re-opened historic “cold case” of the 1963 bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham. Mr. Jones served as lead trial attorney in the successful prosecutions of two former Ku Klux Klansmen for the murder of four young girls killed in the bombing.
