Fast Facts:

  *   The Emerald Ash Borer, a beetle that kills Ash Trees by eating the tissue beneath the bark, has been found throughout North Carolina. Effects of the Emerald Ash Borer will become more profound in the next few years in the Durham community.

  *   On behalf of Trees Across Durham, the Durham City-County Sustainability Office will host an information session about the non-native Emerald Ash Borer and its projected path of destruction in Durham.

  *   Experts from the North Carolina Forest Service and the City of Durham's Urban Forestry Division will lead the information session about to identify Ash Trees, what damage to expect in forests, in backyards across the state, how the pest spreads, and what to do with a dead tree to avoid risk to property and the safety of individuals.

  *   The event is free and open to the public. Registration is not required.

  *   For more information about the upcoming public information session, contact Durham City-County Sustainability Manager Tobin Freid at (919) 560-7999 or by emailing tfreid at dconc.gov.

  *   Find information about the Emerald Ash Borer on the Trees Across Durham website at www.treesacrossdurham.org.
