Durham Celebrates Another Successful National Night Out
Durham is celebrating yet another successful year of National Night Out<http://durhamnc.gov/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=524> activities. Police Chief Cerelyn Davis joined City Manager Tom Bonfield and others as they helped promote police-community partnerships, crime prevention activities, and neighborhood unity at events held throughout Durham. Overall, 108 neighborhoods held celebrations across the city.

Improvements at Edison Johnson Aquatic Center Move Forward
Improvements at the Edison Johnson pool<http://cityordinances.durhamnc.gov/OnBaseAgendaOnline/Documents/ViewDocument/WS-Published%20Attachment%20-%2011245%20-%20MEMO%20-%20EDISON%20JOHNSON%20POOL%20HVAC%20HOCKADAY%20-.pdf?meetingId=115&documentType=Agenda&itemId=517&publishId=2390&isSection=false> are moving forward. Approximately $517,000 will be spent to replace the failing dehumidification system and to improve the lighting around the pool. The eight-lane indoor competition pool is used for swim meets, lap training, swimming instruction, and recreation.

Accessibility Improvements Take Shape at Valley Springs Park & West Point on the Eno
Efforts to meet accessibility standards<http://cityordinances.durhamnc.gov/OnBaseAgendaOnline/Documents/ViewDocument/Final-Published%20Attachment%20-%2011241%20-%20MEMO%20-%20KIMLEY%20HORN%20PROFESSIONAL%20SERVICES%20.pdf?meetingId=124&documentType=Agenda&itemId=917&publishId=2648&isSection=false> at Valley Springs Park and West Point on the Eno are taking shape. The work at Valley Springs Park will include the design of accessibility improvements at the walkways, parking lots, restrooms, and at spectator areas of the ballfields. The West Point on the Eno project will include creating greater connectivity between the park's historic buildings and other points of interest.

City Parking Deck Elevators to be Focus of Modernization & Repair Project
Elevators at three of the City's parking decks will be the focus of a major modernization and repair project<http://cityordinances.durhamnc.gov/OnBaseAgendaOnline/Documents/ViewDocument/Final-Published%20Attachment%20-%2011244%20-%20MEMO%20-%20ELEVATOR%20PROJECT%20DESIGN%20SERVICES%20-.pdf?meetingId=124&documentType=Agenda&itemId=940&publishId=2630&isSection=false>. Three elevators at the Durham Centre garage, one elevator at the Chapel Hill Street garage, and three elevators at the Corcoran Street garage have been identified as being in poor or failing condition. The City will spend $107,000 on design services for a complete modernization of all seven elevators.
