DURHAM, N.C. – Most City of Durham offices, including City Hall and other non-emergency City operations, will be closed Friday, December 23, Monday, December 26, and Monday, January 2 in observance of Christmas and New Year’s. Police, fire, and rescue services for life-threatening or in-progress emergencies may be reached by calling 9-1-1. Non-emergency concerns may be directed to (919) 560-4600. Residents are asked to take note of the following changes in other City services and programs.

Solid Waste, Recycling, Yard Waste, and Bulky Item Curbside Collections
The Solid Waste Management Department<http://durhamnc.gov/832/Solid-Waste-Management> will operate under its normal collection schedules for yard waste and bulky items on December 23. Trash and recycling collections for the week of December 19−23 will not be impacted. However, the department will be closed on December 26 and January 2, therefore trash and recycling collections<http://durhamnc.gov/DocumentCenter/View/13228> will be delayed by one business day for the weeks of December 26−December 30 and January 2−January 6.

Yard waste and bulky items collections<http://durhamnc.gov/DocumentCenter/View/13227> will operate under their normal schedules the weeks of December 26−December 30 and January 2−January 6.

The Waste Disposal & Recycling Center, Yard Waste Facility, and the Household Hazardous Waste Center<http://nc-durham.civicplus.com/898/Disposal-Facilities> will be closed on December 24, December 26, and January 2. These facilities will operate under their regular schedules on December 23 and December 31.

Residents are reminded to place their carts at the curb by 6 a.m. the day of their scheduled collections. Residents are also encouraged to recycle<http://durhamnc.gov/862/Recycling> during the holiday season. Paper holiday waste, including wrapping paper (non-metallic only), cardboard boxes, and greeting cards may be placed in the blue recycling cart.

Once a service request is made, the tree will be added to a Saturday collection route which will occur on January 14, January 28, and February 4.

Yard Waste customers<http://durhamnc.gov/891/Yard-Waste> may place their trees on their curbs between January 3 and February 2 to be collected as part of their regular service. Trees will be noted by their weekly yard waste collection crew and the location automatically added for a Saturday collection on one of the dates noted above. A Christmas tree collection will not count as a one of their free brush collections if it is set out during this timeframe.

In addition to free curbside collections, the Waste Disposal and Recycling Center<http://durhamnc.gov/878/Waste-Disposal-Recycling-Center> will accept live Christmas trees at no charge from January 3 through February 4. Trees delivered after February 4 will be subject to the usual disposal fees.
