MLK Holiday Recognized by Durham County Government on January 16th

Durham, N.C. - Durham County Government will observe the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday on Monday, January 16, 2017. On this day, non-essential offices for the County will be closed. All County offices will reopen and resume normal hours of operation on Tuesday, January 17th.

Durham County General Services
County Convenience Sites
The Durham County General Services Department will close its four Solid Waste and Recycling Convenience Sites on January 16th. Durham County residents with a current 2016-2017 solid waste decal can resume disposal of garbage, recycling, yard waste and bulky items on January 17th beginning at 7 a.m.

Roadside Recycling Collection
The Durham County roadside recycling collection (Schedule A - North of the Eno River) for the week of January 16th will not change due to the holiday. Customers scheduled for Monday's collection will receive service on Monday as scheduled.

Durham County Department of Public Health
The Durham County Department of Public Health will follow the Durham County Government Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday schedule.

For Public Health emergencies during the holiday closure, including communicable disease reporting, environmental health and suspected foodborne illnesses, please call 911 and ask for the Durham County Department of Public Health's response team member on-call.

Durham County Library
Durham County Library will also be closed on January 16th, for the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. The Main Library downtown will now be closed for a complete transformation, but all other locations will reopen on January 17th with regular hours.

Durham County Social Services
Durham County's Department of Social Services (DSS) will follow the Durham County Government holiday closing schedule. DSS will close their offices in the Human Services Building on East Main Street, as well as, the DSS Child Care Subsidy Office, located at 1201 Briggs Avenue, Suite 101, on January 16th. We will reopen with normal hours of operation on January 17th.

Durham City-County Martin Luther King, Jr. Employee Observance Program
Durham City and County governments collaborate annually for a Martin Luther King, Jr. Employee Observance Program. The 12th Annual program, scheduled for today was cancelled due to inclement weather conditions.
