Please consider offering a wage of $15 for this position. Surely the support of a living wage for all workers, especially those working in farming related jobs, is consistent with the goals of your organization.

According to the guidelines of the Durham Living Wage Certification program, an independent contractor position such as this requires a living wage of $15.53/hour. (www.durhamlivingwage.org)

Subject: [Durham INC] Durham Roots Farmers Market looking for part-time mananger

Durham Roots is looking for a part-time (7 hours/week, $12/hour) market manager. Please feel free to forward the attached job description and application to your communities.

The mission of the Durham Roots Farmer's Market at Northgate is to preserve Durham County's farms by providing opportunities for farmers and horticulturalists to sell their products. We heartily welcome vendors from small and beginning farms to large and established producers, as well as church, school, and community gardens. Emphasizing our focus on agriculture, we don't have arts and crafts or food trucks at the market.

Role and Responsibilities:
The Market Manager will serve as the market host and must be present during market hours, Saturdays from 8AM to 12 noon. The MM must also be present a half-hour before and after market hours to assist vendors, set up signs, move trash receptacles, and move lightweight roadblocks. During market hours the MM will welcome the public and ensure market rules are followed. These activities include welcoming consumers and addressing questions and complaints, selling T-Shirts and other DRFM items, recording consumer attendance, gathering consumer contact information, collecting vendor fees, and in the future, EBT/SNAP/Double Bucks transactions. Activities also include recruiting and directing volunteers to help with the above tasks to assure the attendance of a back-up manager in the case of a planned or emergency absence.

During the week, the Market Manager must communicate with vendors via email/cellphone to obtain the previous week’s sales figures and upcoming market attendance and products for sale. The MM will then use social media (Facebook, listserves, and email) to announce weekly vendors and their products. The MM will also attend monthly board meetings, various community events to promote the market, seek educational organizations for and rapidly communicate with the DRFM board and Northgate Mall to keep them informed of issues as they emerge.
