Who: City of Durham General Services and Transportation Departments
When: Thursday, May 4, 2017, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Where: Durham Armory
220 Foster Street
Durham, N.C. 27701
Fast Facts:
* Construction of a new downtown parking garage is set to begin later this year and the City of Durham is holding a community information session next month to get input and ideas on the schematic design progress.
* The $23 million project, to be located on a 1.2-acre site bounded by Rigsbee Avenue, West Morgan Street and North Mangum Street, will be a mixed-use parking deck with approximately 650 parking spaces. The garage will also contain approximately 16,000 square feet of commercial/retail space and 5,000 square feet for a centralized parking office. The project is anticipated to be under construction in fall 2017 with a completion date in January 2019.
* The new garage is necessary due to an unprecedented demand for parking in City-owned public parking facilities. The City's off-street parking garages (Chapel Hill Street Garage, Church Street Garage, Corcoran Street Garage, and the Durham Centre Garage) are at capacity for monthly permit holders. As a result, the City is not able to accommodate requests for monthly parking permits from individuals or businesses.
* For residents and stakeholders unable to attend the community visioning session, updates throughout the course of the project will also be available on the project website<http://durhamnc.gov/761/New-Downtown-Parking-Garage>.
* Any person with a disability may receive an auxiliary aid or service to effectively participate in this session by contacting the City's ADA Coordinator at (919) 560-4197 or by email<mailto:ADA at DurhamNC.gov> no later than 48 hours before the meeting.
* Questions may also be directed to General Services Project Management Team Leader and Project Manager Henri Prosperi<mailto:henri.prosperi at durhamnc.gov> at (919) 560-4197, ext. 21253.
