[Durham INC] Fwd: UPDATE: Notification of Discharge of Untreated Wastewater

Isn't it time the city uses our stormwater fees to fix infrastructure like this ASAP, so we can avoid future leaks that are bound to occur? It seems the infrastructure is addressed on a complaint-driven basis, and then, at least if it's stormwater related, the city tells the plaintiff that it's his/her (or a neighbor's) problem. Seems short-sighted on many levels to me.

> Durham, NC -  June 14, 2017- Staff have determined the cause of the discharge to be from a crushed clay pipe that was approximately 50 years old. The failed section of pipe has been fully repaired and is now back in service, thanks to the timely actions and effective response of Durham County staff and partners. Durham County continues to engage in operations in this area to mitigate the potential for harm to aquatic life from this event. It is anticipated that these operations will continue for another 24-48 hours. We will continue to monitor the impacted area and take any additional actions necessary to protect our natural resources. There is no evidence that drinking water, businesses or residences have been impacted by the discharge. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
