East Main Street Waterline Replacement Project Update and Two-Week Look Ahead

July 20, 2017

Improvements to the City's waterline infrastructure will continue along the East Main Street corridor.  Additional information regarding this project can be found at: http://durhamnc.gov/3001/East-Main-Street-Waterline-Replacement.

Planned Road / Lane Closures will occur as follows:

  *   Week of 7/24:
     *   Lane shifts and flaggers on East Main Street between Church Street and Fayetteville Street, Hood Street, and South Elizabeth Street.
     *   Lane closures on Ramseur Street between Dillard Street and Fayetteville Street.
     *   Lane closure on East Main Street between Church and Roxboro streets during weekend work.
  *   Week of 7/31:
     *   Lane shifts and flaggers on East Main Street between Roxboro Street and Fayetteville Street, Hood Street, and South Elizabeth Street.
     *   Lane closures on Ramseur Street between Dillard Street and Fayetteville Street.

Saturday-Sunday July 22-23, 2017:

  *   No work is planned for Saturday, July 22nd or  Sunday, July 23rd.

Week of July 24, 2017:

  *   Restoration of sidewalks, curb, etc. and abandonment of existing waterlines in East Main Street between Roxboro and Fayetteville streets, Hood Street, South Elizabeth Street, and Ramseur Street will continue.
     *   Lane shifts and flaggers will be used to maintain traffic at isolated locations in the project area.
     *   Through traffic on East Main Street will be maintained.
     *   Noise levels in excess of the current City noise ordinance are anticipated during work hours.
     *   Pedestrian and driveway access to buildings / facilities will be maintained at all times.
  *   Stormwater installation will begin on East Main Street between S. Elizabeth / Commerce and Hood streets.
     *   Lane closures and detours will be used to maintain traffic at stormwater crossing locations on East Main Street.
     *   Through traffic on East Main Street will be maintained.
     *   Noise levels in excess of the current City noise ordinance are anticipated during work hours.
     *   Pedestrian and driveway access to buildings / facilities will be maintained at all times.

  *   Stormwater installation along Ramseur Street between Dillard and Hood streets will continue.
     *   Lane closures and detours will be used to maintain traffic at stormwater crossing locations at Hood and S. Elizabeth streets.
     *   Noise levels in excess of the current City noise ordinance are anticipated during work hours.
     *   Pedestrian and driveway access to buildings / facilities will be maintained at all times.
  *   Existing stamped concrete in East Main Street on the west side of Roxboro Street will be removed.
     *   Lane closures and shifts will be used to maintain traffic in both directions during work.
     *   Noise levels in excess of the current City noise ordinance are anticipated during work hours.
     *   Pedestrian and driveway access to buildings / facilities will be maintained at all times.

Friday - Monday July 28-31, 2017:

  *   Stamped concrete restoration will take place on East Main Street on the west side of Roxboro Street.
     *   East Main Street will be closed between Church Street and Roxboro Street from 7 PM on Friday through 6 AM on Monday.
     *   Traffic control signs and markings will be used for East Main Street detours.
     *   Noise levels in excess of the current City noise ordinance are anticipated on Friday evening and Saturday morning.
     *   Pedestrian and driveway access to buildings / facilities will be maintained at all times.

Week of July 31, 2017:

  *   Restoration of sidewalks, curb, etc. and abandonment of existing waterlines in East Main Street between Roxboro and Fayetteville streets, Hood Street, South Elizabeth Street, and Ramseur Street will continue.
     *   Lane shifts and flaggers will be used to maintain traffic at isolated locations in the project area.
     *   Through traffic on East Main Street will be maintained.
     *   Noise levels in excess of the current City noise ordinance are anticipated during work hours.
     *   Pedestrian and driveway access to buildings / facilities will be maintained at all times.
  *   Stormwater installation will continue on East Main Street between Elizabeth and Hood streets.
     *   Lane closures and detours will be used to maintain traffic at stormwater crossing locations on East Main Street.
     *   Through traffic on East Main Street will be maintained.
     *   Noise levels in excess of the current City noise ordinance are anticipated during work hours.
     *   Pedestrian and driveway access to buildings / facilities will be maintained at all times.

  *   Stormwater installation along Ramseur Street between Dillard and Hood streets will continue.
     *   Lane closures and detours will be used to maintain traffic at stormwater crossing locations at Hood and S. Elizabeth streets.
     *   Noise levels in excess of the current City noise ordinance are anticipated during work hours.
     *   Pedestrian and driveway access to buildings / facilities will be maintained at all times.

Saturday-Sunday August 5-6, 2017:

  *   No work is planned for Saturday, August 5th or  Sunday, August 6th.

Future Weeks:

  *   Restoration of sidewalks and other surfaces impacted by the project will continue.
  *   Waterline service reconnections in Angier Avenue between East Main Street and Elm Avenue will coordinated with affected residents.  A lane closure on Angier Avenue will be required to complete the work.
  *   Stormwater improvements along East Main Street will continue.
  *   Pavement improvements in the intersection of Fayetteville / East Main street are anticipated to occur in late August.  An intersection closure with traffic detours is planned for approximately 4-5 days to complete the work.
  *   Work will exceed the current City noise ordinance.
