DURHAM, N.C. - The City of Durham Community Development Department is inviting interested organizations to apply for $160,333 in Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) funds.

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services recently informed the department that the Durham Continuum of Care (CoC) was eligible to apply for up to $96,206 to fund operating costs of emergency shelters and at least $64,127 to rapidly re-house people who are currently homeless. Eligible applicants must be private, nonprofit organizations or units of local government. Project applications for these ESG funds are due to the department by 4 p.m. on Friday, October 6, 2017. Project application instructions and supporting documentation information are available at the Durham CoC website<http://www.durhamopeningdoors.org/tools-for-change/emergency-solutions-grant/>.

At this time, the department also is issuing a public invitation to the Durham community to join the Durham CoC. The CoC is composed of representatives from organizations including nonprofit homeless providers, victim service providers, faith-based organizations, governments, businesses, advocates, public housing agencies, school districts, social service providers, mental health agencies, hospitals, universities, affordable housing developers, law enforcement, organizations that serve homeless and formerly homeless veterans, and homeless and formerly homeless people. The Durham CoC is organized to coordinate local efforts to address housing and homeless issues and to reduce homelessness. Membership is available at no charge.
