Durham Closes City Hall, Suspends Trash & Recycling Collections on January 18
Revised Garbage & Recycling Collections Schedule Released

DURHAM, N.C. - After receiving nearly a foot of snow<http://www.weather.gov/rah/> in the Bull City today, most City of Durham offices, including City Hall and all other non-emergency City departments, will be closed on Thursday, January 18<http://bit.ly/2DgjLvG> due to icy road conditions. The regular City Council Work Session, scheduled for January 18 at 1 p.m., has also been canceled and will be rescheduled for next week.

The City of Durham Solid Waste Management Department<http://durhamnc.gov/832/Solid-Waste-Management> has suspended trash and recycling collections on Thursday, January 18. Road and weather conditions permitting, the department will collect garbage and recycling on the following revised schedule:

*        Regular Tuesday customers will be collected on their normal collection day next week, which is Tuesday, January 23. Recycling for regular Tuesday customers will be collected on Friday, January 19.

*        Regular Wednesday customers will receive their garbage and recycling collections on Friday, January 19.

*        Regular Thursday customers will receive their garbage and recycling collections on Saturday, January 20.

Customers are asked to not leave their carts at the curb until their rescheduled collection date to allow snow plows easier access on city streets<http://durhamnc.gov/3237/Snow-Removal>. Yard waste and bulky item collections, along with exempt customers, are suspended until next week to allow these crews to assist with garbage and recycling collections, and to help ensure the safety of crews working in neighborhoods. The Waste Disposal and Recycling Center (Transfer Station) is also closed on Thursday, January 18. Road conditions permitting, the Center will re-open on Friday, January 19 at 7:30 a.m. The Center plans to accept yard waste and live Christmas trees on January 19.

As a reminder, the E-Waste Recycling, Paper Shredding, and Live Christmas Tree Disposal event<http://durhamnc.gov/DocumentCenter/View/18046>, previously scheduled for Saturday, January 20 at Durham County Memorial Stadium, has also been canceled to allow crews to instead focus on garbage and recycling collections on Saturday. This event will be rescheduled at a later date.

Residents are reminded that police, fire, and rescue services for life-threatening or in-progress emergencies can be reached by calling 911. Non-emergency concerns can be directed to (919) 560-4600.
