Durham Announces Emergency Communications Center Director

DURHAM, N.C. - City Manager Tom Bonfield and County Manager Wendell Davis have named Randy R. Beeman<https://durhamnc.gov/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=1469> as the new director of the Durham Emergency Communications Center<http://durhamnc.gov/435/Emergency-Communications>.

Beeman currently serves as director of Emergency Services for the County of Cumberland, N.C., where he is responsible for a 24/7 emergency call center, fire marshal office, and emergency management. In this position since 2012, he develops and manages a $3.2 million budget and supervises 50 employees who provide communication services to county law enforcement, emergency medical services, volunteer fire departments, and police departments. Beeman served as town manager for the Town of Hope Mills, N.C. from 2007 to 2012; as town manager for the Town of River Bend, N.C. from 2004 to 2007; and as county manager for the County of Pamlico, N.C. from 1999 to 2004.

A native of Pamlico County, N.C, Beeman is a graduate of East Carolina University with a bachelor's in Business Management as well as a graduate of the UNC School of Government Municipal and County Administration course.

Beeman serves as Second Vice-President of N.C. Chapter of the National Emergency Number Association and on the N.C. 911 Funding Committee, and is a member of National Emergency Number Association, National Fire Protection Association, Cumberland County Fire Chiefs Association, and North Carolina Fire Chiefs Association.

Beeman was honored as County Manager of the Year by Region P Council of Governments of Eastern North Carolina in 2000, and has also served as a volunteer emergency services/emergency medical technician for 30 years.

Beeman succeeds James Soukup, who retired as director of the Durham Emergency Communications Center in November 2017. Beeman's appointment is effective July 30, 2018.
