BOCC Regular Session Highlights from November 13th



Durham, NC - The Durham Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) met on Tuesday, November 13, 2018, in Regular Session. Highlights of the meeting include:



  *   Board Chair Wendy Jacobs called the regular meeting to order at 7 p.m.
  *   County Commissioners issued a proclamation recognizing the 60th Anniversary of the Durham North Carolina Chapter of Links, Inc. Links members are accomplished community leaders who share their expertise, professional skills and financial resources with non-profits, faith-based organizations and students at area schools and universities with the goal of lifting the community. This organization has nearly 15,000 members in 41 states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of the Bahamas and the United Kingdom.
  *   The Board of County Commissioners approved a resolution honoring the life and legacy of Lewis McCallum, who was a founding member of Bull City United, Durham County Government's violence prevention program. McCallum worked tirelessly and at great personal risk to save many other lives over the past two years by mediating violent conflicts and modeling non-violent conflict resolution.
  *   The Board adopted the proposed schedule of values, standards and rules to be used for the 2019 Reappraisal, as submitted to the Board at its September 24, 2018 meeting, and to advertise the adoption of the rules in a manner consistent with North Carolina law.
  *   Durham County Commissioners updated the Facility Use Policy to include the nine conference rooms constructed in the Administration Building II and upgraded fees. The policy ensures that certain facilities owned and operated by Durham County are utilized in a manner that has a public purpose and meets the needs of the community.
  *   Commissioners approved a Budget Ordinance Amendment to recognize funds from the U. S. Department of Justice for $91,016 for Integrated Reentry services and to establish a 1.0 full-time employee provisional position to assist with planning and implementation of the grant. The USDOJ awarded a 3-year grant of $658,755 to Durham County to improve reentry for adults with co-occurring Substance Abuse and Mental Illness leaving the Durham County Detention Center.
  *   Youth members of the Durham Youth Commission presented the Annual Report to the Board of County Commissioners. The report included activities accomplished during the previous year along with anticipated events for the upcoming year,
  *   The Board endorsed a conceptual plan for the redevelopment of the 300 and 500 blocks of East Main Street and authorized Development Finance Initiative (DFI) and County staff to begin drafting solicitations for the projects.
  *   Ben Rose, Department of Social Services Director provided the Board with an overview of Medicaid Transformation and the changes both clients and provided will see over the next three years.
