Most City of Durham Offices Closed for Christmas & New Years
Residents Asked to Note Changes in City-Provided Services

DURHAM, N.C. - Most City of Durham offices, including City Hall and other non-emergency City operations, will be closed<https://durhamnc.gov/DocumentCenter/View/24857/Most-City-of-Durham-Offices-Closed-for-Christmas-and-New-Years> on Monday, December 24, Tuesday, December 25, and Wednesday, December 26 in observance of Christmas as well as on Tuesday,  January 1 in observance of New Years.

Police, fire and rescue services for life-threatening or in-progress emergencies may be reached by calling 911. Non-emergency problems or concerns may be directed to (919) 560-4600. Residents are asked to make note of the following changes in other City-provided services and programs.

Solid Waste, Recycling, Yard Waste, and Bulky Service Curbside Collections
The Solid Waste Management Department<https://durhamnc.gov/832/Solid-Waste-Management> will be closed on December 25 and January 1. The revised collection schedule for all curbside services reflects a one-day delay in garbage, recycling, yard waste, and bulky services collections for all customers - except regular Monday customers - as follows:

Week of December 24-28

*        Monday customers will receive collections on Monday, December 24 as regularly scheduled.

*        Tuesday customers will receive collections on Wednesday, December 26.

*        Wednesday customers will receive collections on Thursday, December 27.

*        Thursday customers will receive collections on Friday, December 28.

*        Friday customers (yard waste and bulky services only) will receive collections on Monday, December 31.

Week of December 31-January 4

*        Monday customers will receive collections on Monday, December 31 as regularly scheduled.

*        Tuesday customers will receive collections on Wednesday, January 2.

*        Wednesday customers will receive collections on Thursday, January 3.

*        Thursday customers will receive collections on Friday, January 4.

*        Friday customers (yard waste and bulky services only) will receive collections on Monday, January 7.

The Waste Disposal & Recycling Center, Yard Waste Facility, and the Household Hazardous Waste Center<https://nc-durham.civicplus.com/898/Disposal-Facilities> will close early on December 24 at 2 p.m. and remain closed on December 25 and December 26. These facilities will also be closed on January 1. Residents are reminded to place their carts at the curb by 6 a.m. the day of their scheduled collections and to recycle as much as possible during the holiday season. Paper holiday waste, including wrapping paper (non-metallic only), cardboard boxes, and greeting cards may be placed in the blue recycling cart. Curbside Collection of Live Christmas Trees
Non-Yard Waste customers must contact Durham One Call<https://durhamnc.gov/1439/Durham-One-Call> at (919) 560-1200 to request a curbside collection of their live Christmas tree. All service requests must be received no later than the end of business on February 1. Once received, service requests will be scheduled for the next available Saturday collection on January 12, January 26 or February 2. Yard Waste customers<https://durhamnc.gov/891/Yard-Waste> should place their live trees at the curb on their scheduled collection day. Tree locations will be noted by the weekly collection crews and added to the next available Saturday collection day on January 12, January 26 or February 2. A tree collection will not count toward free brush collections for yard waste customers.

Requirements for live Christmas tree disposal are as follows: trees taller than six feet must be cut in half; all decorations including tinsel, lights, garland, ornaments, nails, stands, and hardware must be removed. Trees should not be placed in bags.

In addition to free curbside collections, residents may also drop off their live trees at no charge from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. during the Saturday, January 19th E-Waste Recycling and Paper Shredding event at Durham County Memorial Stadium, located at 750 Stadium Dr., or at the City's Waste Disposal and Recycling Center<http://durhamnc.gov/878/Waste-Disposal-Recycling-Center> from January 2 until February 2. Trees delivered after February 2 to the Center will be subject to the usual yard waste disposal fees.

Durham Parks and Recreation
Durham Parks and Recreation<https://durhamnc.gov/753/Parks-Recreation> (DPR) will close its administrative office and all facilities on December 24, 25, and 26. All recreation centers will close at 6 p.m. on December 31 and remain closed January 1. Water Management
Normal operating hours for the Water Management Department's Water and Sewer Maintenance Division are from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Water main break<https://durhamnc.gov/1344/Report-Water-Main-Breaks> and sewer overflow<https://durhamnc.gov/1346/Report-Sewer-Overflows-Backups> calls for service placed after-hours, weekends or on City-recognized holidays should be directed to the department's after-hours emergency phone number at (919) 560-4344, which will dispatch on-call crews. GoDurham and GoDurham ACCESS
GoDurham<http://godurhamtransit.org/> and GoDurham ACCESS<http://godurhamtransit.org/access> will provide regular service on December 24, with the last trips departing from Durham Station at 7 p.m. GoDurham and GoDurham ACCESS will not provide services on December 25. GoDurham and GoDurham ACCESS will provide Sunday-level service on January 1, in which hourly service ends at 9:30 p.m. GoDurham's administrative office will be closed December 24, 25, and January 1.
