Regards, pat

Announcing New
Planning Department
Email Notification Service

Dear Development Services Center Customer,

If you would like to continue receiving periodic notifications regarding Development Services Center operations and changes to development review processes you do not need to take further action.

As always, you may unsubscribe any time via the unsubscribe link at the bottom of this message.

Continue reading if you are interested in learning about a new, separate notification service from Durham’s City-County Planning department. The new service provides a regular summary of various types of development actions requiring a public hearing.

As a reminder, a monthly summary of current development activity (including minor actions not requiring a public hearing) is available here<http://click.icptrack.com/icp/relay.php?r=37120888&msgid=538061&act=28A9&c=785090&destination=http%3A%2F%2Fdurhamnc.gov%2FArchive.aspx%3FAMID%3D56>.

Background

The Durham City-County Planning Department will expand its public hearing notification service starting January 15, 2019. After this date the Department will send email notification of all upcoming Planning public hearings to anyone who requests the service (including individuals, neighborhood organizations, or other interested parties).

Details

  * The new email notification service is a continuation and expansion of the existing neighborhood notification mail-outs for zoning and other land use public hearings.
  * These notifications go beyond state law requirements and have been determined by Durham’s elected officials to be a necessary method to help citizens stay informed about upcoming zoning and other land use public hearings.
  * Notification will NOT be restricted to a certain distance from a development site - any individual or entity requesting this service will be notified of ALL scheduled hearings regardless of location.
  * This service is not available via text message or paper mailing.
  * This service does not affect property owner notification as required by Ordinance.

How to sign up

Only those who opt-in will be added to the new notification service. Click the link below to register.

https://durhamnc.gov/list.aspx?ListID=340<http://click.icptrack.com/icp/relay.php?r=37120888&msgid=538061&act=28A9&c=785090&destination=https%3A%2F%2Fdurhamnc.gov%2Flist.aspx%3FListID%3D340>

This service is free. Registration does require the creation of an account through the City of Durham web site.

What to expect

At least one email per month will be published. The email will identify upcoming public hearings of the following review bodies:

  *   Board of Adjustment (special use permits, variances, appeals, reasonable accommodation requests);
  *   Historic Preservation Commission (certificates of appropriateness, new or expanding local historic districts);
  * Planning Commission (rezonings, comprehensive plan amendments, future land use map amendments, ordinance text amendments); and
  * City Council and Board of County Commissioners (rezonings, comprehensive plan amendments, future land use map amendments, ordinance text amendments, major and transportation special use permits, major site plans).
