Move Durham Transportation Study Hosts Community Workshops

Residents Invited to Join Project Team at Three Upcoming Workshops to Share Feedback

DURHAM, N.C. – If you live or travel in and around downtown and the central area of the Bull City, the City of Durham Transportation Department wants to hear from you.

The department is hosting three community workshops for the Move Durham<http://www.MoveDurham.org> Transportation Study, which will develop a clear vision for the future of transportation and mobility in the central area of Durham. Residents are invited to attend any of the following workshops:

· Tuesday, January 22, 5 p.m. – 7 p.m., Hayti Heritage Center, 804 Old Fayetteville St.

· Friday, January 25, 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., Durham County Human Services Building, 414 E. Main St.

· Saturday, January 26, 10 a.m. – noon, Durham Station Transportation Center, 515 W. Pettigrew St.

Move Durham<http://www.MoveDurham.org> is a nine-month multimodal transportation planning process that involves public outreach and data gathering to improve the department’s understanding of how people move to and through the central area of the community. The project will examine current conditions, develop future projections, and work with the community to create recommendations that consider all modes of travel including biking, walking, public transit, shared/new mobility, and personal automobiles.

Public input is critical and the department has developed several ways for residents to share their thoughts and suggestions in this initial phase of the plan.

· Share thoughts: Send an email to movedurham at altaplanning.com<mailto:movedurham at altaplanning.com> to share ideas, questions or suggestions for public outreach events. Ideas can also be shared by tweeting @movesafedurham<https://twitter.com/movesafedurham> and using the hashtag #MoveDurham.

· Take the online survey: Help staff understand how people currently move around downtown and ideas on the future of transportation mobility at www.MoveDurham.org<http://www.MoveDurham.org>. The website and survey are also available in Spanish.

· Map ideas online: Add a point to the map at www.MoveDurham.org<http://www.MoveDurham.org> to share an idea or identify an area that needs to be fixed.

· Speak with the project team: The project team will be attending community events and soliciting feedback in person at various locations near central Durham in the coming months.

· Invite the project team to come to you: The project team will attend your community or neighborhood meeting. Send an email to movedurham at altaplanning.com<mailto:movedurham at altaplanning.com> to invite the team.

· Stay connected: Staff will be hosting a series of community meetings and outreach opportunities in the coming months which will be posted to www.MoveDurham.org<http://www.MoveDurham.org>.

This study is jointly funded by the City of Durham, the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), and the Durham-Chapel Hill-Carrboro Metropolitan Planning Organization (DCHC MPO).
