[Durham INC] THE TALK -- a one-man performance about the difficult conversations AfricanAmerican parents have with their children these days

Hello,
  I want all of Durham to know about, and see, this performance. It previews at The Fruit Thursday and opens Friday. Twelve performances, Thursday through Sunday, here in Durham, at The Fruit, from Jan. 24 until Feb. 10. Tickets from $5 to $20. 
  I saw The Talk last year at the Chapel Hill library and assure you that you, as active and involved Durhamites, should see it, and stay for the talkback conversation after Sonny's performance if you can. 
  Thursday's show begins at 7:30 p.m., runs about 70 minutes without an intermission, and will have a post-show discussion. Friday and Saturday shows begin at 8 p.m., and Sunday performances begin at 2 p.m. 
  Please crosspost the information below to your neighborhood listservs, belief/faith/social/political groups, and others you know who are concerned about living in a racially divided society.

The Talk bySonny Kelly 

The Talk isa one-man performance that draws on the voices ofancestors, elders, youths, and intellectuals to engage in the difficult conversationsthat we must have with our children as we prepare them tosurvive and thrive in today’s America. Written and performed by UNC CommunicationPhD student Sonny Kelly, The Talk wasborn of a painful conversation Sonny had with his seven-year-oldson after hearing news reports about multiple killings andbeatings of black men by civil authorities. 

 

The Talk will be performed 12 times atDurham Fruit and Produce Co., 305 South Dillard and four times at the HistoricPlaymakers Theatre, 122 E. Cameron, Chapel Hill beginning Thursday, Jan. 24, andconcluding Sunday, Feb. 17. Talkback discussions with Kelly and panelists aftereach performance. Prices range from $5 to $20: discounts for groups,active-duty military, veterans, seniors, people under 35, and—in Chapel Hill—UNCstudents, faculty, and staff.
