Durham Hosts N.C. Highway 54 Pedestrian Facilities Meeting

Drop-In Style Meeting to Collect Resident Input on Design Plan

DURHAM, N.C. - If you live, work, or travel along N.C. Highway 54 East in Durham, you’ll want to mark your calendar for a meeting later this month to review the design for sidewalks along this busy road.

The City of Durham Public Works Department has prepared the design for pedestrian facilities<https://durhamnc.gov/DocumentCenter/View/20218/SW-51D-NC-54-Vicinity-Map> along N.C. Highway 54 from east of N.C. Highway 55 to the western limit of Research Triangle Park, and staff wants to share their work to date and get resident input.

The drop-in style meeting is set for Tuesday, March 19 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the Durham County South Regional Library<https://durhamcountylibrary.org/location/south/> (South Meeting Room on the right side), located at 4505 S. Alston Ave.

Residents will be able to review the proposed design, ask questions of Public Works staff, and provide input before the department completes the final design work. For residents who can’t attend the March 19 meeting, maps and a comment form to collect their feedback will be available on the project website<https://durhamnc.gov/3306/Design-Services-for-NC-54-SW-51D>.

This is a pedestrian project only, so it will not include road widening to expand the traffic capacity or the intersections within this corridor. This is the second and final community meeting to collect resident input for this project.

For additional information about this project, contact Edith Peters, PE with Davenport & Associates at (704) 208-4923 or at EPeters at davenportworld.com<mailto:EPeters at davenportworld.com>; or David Cates, PE with the City’s Public Works Department at (919) 560-4326, ext. 30232 or at David.Cates at DurhamNC.gov<mailto:Lee.Murphy at DurhamNC.gov>.
