County to Recognize Memorial Day 2019

Durham, N.C. - Durham County Government will close most offices in recognition of the Memorial Day holiday on Monday, May 27, 2019. All County offices will reopen and resume normal hours of operation on Tuesday, May 28th.

Durham County Convenience Centers:
The Durham County General Services Department will close all four of its solid waste and recycling convenience sites on May 27th. Durham County residents with a current 2018-2019 solid waste decal can resume disposal of garbage, recycling, yard waste and bulky items at the County's convenience sites on May 28th, beginning at 7 a.m.

The Durham County roadside recycling schedule for customers on Schedule B, normally serviced the week of May 27th will maintain the same schedule. All residents are reminded to set out their recycling bins before 6 a.m. on the day of pickup, to avoid a missed collection.

Durham County Library:
All Durham County Library locations will be closed on Sunday, May 26th and Monday, May 27th. All locations will reopen with regular hours on Tuesday, May 28th.

Durham County Public Health:
The Durham County Department of Public Health will follow the Durham County Government Memorial Day holiday closing schedule.

For Public Health emergencies during the holiday closure, including communicable disease reporting, environmental health and suspected foodborne illnesses, please call 911 and ask for the Durham County Department of Public Health's response team member on-call.

Durham County Social Services:

The Durham County Department of Social Services (DSS) will close its offices for the Memorial Day holiday. Residents are encouraged to call 911 to reach an on-call social worker to report child abuse and neglect or adult abuse and neglect. On May 28th, DSS will reopen and operate according to its normal hours of operation.

Durham County Sheriff
Durham County's Sheriff Office's patrol division, as always, is available 24/7. The Sheriff's Administration and Records Division will be closed on May 27th and will reopen on May 28th.

County to Honor Fallen Heroes
Residents and visitors planning to observe Memorial Day 2019 are invited to join Durham County Veteran Services as they commemorate the national day of mourning with a ceremony at 9 a.m. on May 27th. The remembrance honoring America's military service members who died while serving their country will take place on the front steps of the Durham County Administration Building/Old Durham County Courthouse at 200 E. Main St.
