Durham Celebrates 2019 MED Week October 7-11
September 30 Registration Deadline

DURHAM, N.C. - Durham business owners will get their chance next month to learn how to connect their business with more opportunities during the 2019 Minority Enterprise Development (MED) Week<https://www.eventbrite.com/e/durham-med-week-tickets-70610591179>.

The City of Durham, in partnership with multiple community, state and local businesses, will observe 2019 MED Week from October 7-11. MED Week celebrates the achievements of minority entrepreneurs and affirms government, business, and community organizations' commitment to the principle of equal opportunity.

Special events for this year's celebration include an honors luncheon; a discussion focusing on the challenges and opportunities in Durham's current economy; a business fair; and a business financial literacy seminar. This year's theme is "Minority & Women Businesses: Success For All." The deadline to register<https://www.eventbrite.com/e/durham-med-week-tickets-70610591179> to attend any of the following events is Friday, September 30.


*        State of Durham's Economy:  Challenges & Opportunities: Monday, October 7 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Self-Help, 302 W. Main St.  The cost is free, but registration<https://www.eventbrite.com/e/durham-med-week-tickets-70610591179> is requested.

*        MED Week Honors Luncheon: Tuesday, October 8 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Durham Hilton near Duke University, 3800 Hillsborough Rd. The cost is $30 per person and registration<https://www.eventbrite.com/e/durham-med-week-tickets-70610591179> is required. The keynote speaker is CEO & Founder Maggie Anderson of the Empowerment Experiment Foundation.

*        Business Financial Literacy: Wednesday, October 9 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Provident 1898, 411 W. Chapel Hill St. The cost is free, but registration<http://www.durhamchamber.org> is requested.

*        MED Week Business Fair: Thursday, October 10 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Durham Armory, 220 Foster St. The cost for attendance is free, though there is a fee for vendor space. Registration<http://www.2019mbf.eventbrite.com> is requested.

*        Networking at Hi-Wire: Friday, October 11 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Hi-Wire at Golden Belt, 800 Taylor St., Bldg. #9-150. The cost is free, but registration<https://www.eventbrite.com/e/durham-med-week-tickets-70610591179> is requested.

Durham's local observance is a collaborative effort including the City of Durham Equity and Inclusion Department, Skanska USA Building, Inc., Durham County, Le Chase Construction, Gilbane, Greater Durham Black Chamber of Commerce, Duke University, Duke Health, SAS, Greater Durham Chamber of Commerce, Balfour Beatty Construction, The Institute, and N.C. Department of Administration Office for Historically Underutilized Businesses.
