Most Durham County Government Offices to Close for Veterans Day

Durham, N.C. - Durham County Government will close most offices in observance of the Veterans Day holiday on Monday, November 11, 2019. All offices will reopen with normal hours of operation on Tuesday, November 12.

County to Host Annual Veterans Day Celebration
The public is invited to attend the 7th Annual Durham County Veterans Day Recognition and Celebration Program hosted by the Durham County Veteran Services Department on Friday, November 8 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Each year Durham County recognizes former active duty military service members during a celebration of patriotism, services and sacrifice. There will be a special presentation highlighting the 75th anniversary of the G.I. Bill.

Board of County Commissioners Regular Session
The Durham Board of County Commissioners has rescheduled their upcoming Regular Session due to the Veterans Day holiday. The BOCC normally holds its sessions on Mondays, however, the public meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 12, instead of Monday, November 11, in the Commissioners Chambers located on the second floor of the Administration Building I, 200 E. Main Street.

Durham County General Services
Convenience Sites
The Durham County General Services Department will close all four of its solid waste and recycling convenience sites on November 11. Durham County residents with a current 2019-2020 solid waste decal can resume disposal of garbage, recycling, yard waste and bulky items at the County's convenience sites on November 12, beginning at 7 a.m.

Roadside Recycling
The Durham County roadside recycling schedule for customers normally serviced the week of November 12 will not be affected. All residents are reminded to set out their recycling bins before 7 a.m. on the day of pickup, to avoid a missed collection. Residents who want to keep track of their recycling collection schedule should download the new "Durham County Recycles" mobile application. Residents can download for free the mobile app for Apple devices in the App Store<https://apps.apple.com/app/id1481279900> or Android devices in the Google Play Store<https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=gov.dconc.recollect.waste>.

Durham County Library

All Durham County Library locations will be closed on Monday, November 11. All locations will reopen with regular hours on Tuesday, November 12.

Durham County Public Health

The Durham County Department of Public Health will follow the Durham County Government Veterans Day holiday closing schedule.

For Public Health emergencies during the holiday closure, including communicable disease reporting, environmental health and suspected foodborne illnesses, please call 911 and ask for the Durham County Department of Public Health's response team member on-call.

Durham County Social Services

On November 11, the Durham County Department of Social Services (DSS) will close its offices for the Veterans Day Holiday. Residents are encouraged to call 911 to reach an on-call social worker to report child abuse and neglect or adult abuse and neglect. On Tuesday, November 12, DSS will reopen and operate according to its normal hours of operation. Durham County Sheriff

Durham County Sheriff's Office patrol division, as always, is available 24/7. The Sheriff's Administration and Records Division will be closed on November 11 and will reopen on November 12.
