Hello Outreach Team,

We realize that we haven't told you what to expect at the Listening and 
Learning Workshops. Here is what is planned so that you know and can 
share with folks in the community:

Each workshop is planned to last 2 hours. In addition, people are 
welcome to come up to 30 minutes before the scheduled meeting time. 
Folks that arrive early can talk with staff and to go through a 
background activity that sets out some information on Durham that 
relates to the comprehensive plan and transit plan.

Background activity description: This is a game that will provide 
information about our community, particularly around things that will be 
impacted by the comprehensive plan or the transit plan.

You will move through a number of gallery boards meant to mimic moving 
through the community. At the first board you'll choose a mode of travel 
at the imaginary transit hub where we'll be asking folks to respond to 
the following:
*       I wish transit could...
*       I need transit for... and
*       Transit can help Durham by...

As you move from one board to the next you'll go through a few scenarios 
that you might encounter in your daily life in Durham. As you move 
through these imaginary places you will encounter different situations 
which may impact how long it takes to get you to your final  destination.

Workshop description: The workshop will begin with a brief welcome and 
presentation. We aim to answer three questions with the presentation:
*       What is a comprehensive plan?
*       How does it impact my life? and
*       How will my input be incorporated into this process?

Following the presentation there will be small group discussions at each 
table around two questions:
*       What does your ideal Durham look like? and
*       What's on your mind about Durham?

Each table will have a City or County staff person who will be 
responsible for making sure that everyone at the table gets a chance to 
share and that all comments and ideas are written down. The purpose of 
this discussion is to provide time for people to talk about what matters 
to them in the community right now - and to think about what you hope 
Durham will be like in the future. Responses to these questions will 
form the goals for the new comprehensive plan and transit plan.

At the end of the workshop we will explain the next steps in the 
process.  After the Listening and Learning Workshops we will continue to 
ask for input on these questions until the end of January 2020, both 
through the work of the Ambassadors and through an online survey with 
these same questions. We will organize the input received into common 
themes, or categories, and draft proposed comprehensive plan goals that 
reflect what we heard from the community in this first phase of 
engagement. The draft goals, along with all the input received, will be 
shared with the community in the next round of engagement in the spring 
of 2020. Through that next engagement effort, we will ask the community 
if we correctly captured what was shared through the Listening and 
Learning process, and for their feedback on the proposed goals. We will 
also share additional background information on the current status of 
various aspects of our community, such as housing, infrastructure, and 
transportation.

Nos damos cuenta que no les hemos dicho qué esperar en los Talleres para 
Escuchar y Aprender. He aquí lo que está planeado, para que lo sepan y 
lo compartan con las personas en la comunidad:

Está planificado que cada Taller dure 2 horas. Además, pueden llegar 30 
minutos antes de lo programado a la reunión. Aquellos que lleguen 
temprano pueden hablar con el personal y realizar una actividad de 
trasfondo que establece la información sobre Durham en relación al Plan 
Integral y el Plan de Tránsito.

Descripción de la actividad de trasfondo: Se trata de un juego que

A medida que se mueve de un tablero a otro, pasará por algunos 
escenarios con los que se pudiera encontrar en su vida diaria en Durham. 
Al moverse entre estos sitios imaginarios, se encontrará con distintas 
situaciones, las cuales pueden tener un impacto en el tiempo que le tome 
llegar a su destino final.

Descripción del Taller: El Taller comenzará con una breve bienvenida y 
presentación. Nuestro objetivo de la presentación es responder a tres 
preguntas:
*       ¿Qué es un plan integral?
*       ¿Cómo tiene un impacto en mi vida? y
*       ¿De qué manera se incorporará mi opinión en este proceso?

Después de la presentación, habrá discusiones de grupos pequeños en cada 
mesa, centradas en dos preguntas:
*       A su parecer, ¿cómo sería el Durham ideal? y
*       ¿Qué es lo que le preocupa sobre Durham?

En cada mesa habrá personal de la Ciudad o el Condado, quien será 
responsable de asegurar que todos los de la mesa tengan la oportunidad 
de compartir y de que se escriban todos los comentarios e ideas. El 
propósito de esta discusión es dar tiempo para que las personas hablen 
sobre lo que les importa acerca de la comunidad en estos momentos -y 
para pensar sobre lo que usted espera que sea Durham en el futuro. Las 
respuestas a estas preguntas formarán las metas para el nuevo Plan 
Integral y el Plan de Tránsito. Al final del taller, explicaremos los 
próximos pasos en el proceso.

Después de los Talleres para Escuchar y Aprender, continuaremos pidiendo 
opiniones sobre dichas preguntas, hasta el final de Enero del 2020, 
ambos a través del trabajo de los Embajadores y de encuestas en línea 
con esas mismas preguntas. Organizaremos las opiniones recibidas en 
temas comunes, o categorías, y elaboraremos un borrador de metas 
propuestas para el Plan Integral que reflejen lo que hemos escuchado de 
la comunidad en la primera fase de participación. El borrador de las 
metas, junto con las opiniones recibidas, serán compartidas con la 
comunidad en la próxima ronda de participación de la primavera del 2020. 
Mediante el siguiente esfuerzo de participación, le preguntaremos a la 
comunidad si hemos capturado correctamente lo que se compartió mediante 
el proceso de Escucha y Aprendizaje y sus opiniones acerca de las metas 
propuestas. También compartiremos información adicional de trasfondo 
acerca del estatus actual de varios aspectos de nuestra comunidad, tales 
como vivienda, infraestructura y transporte.
