Engage Durham Launches Online Survey on New Comprehensive & Transit Plans

DURHAM, N.C. – If you’re interested in helping shape the community’s vision for future growth, but couldn’t attend Engage Durham’s Listening-and-Learning Workshops held earlier this month, an online survey to share your thoughts is now available.

Hosted by the Durham City-County Planning Department, the five workshops were the first community-engagement events for the three-year process to seek input from people who live, work, own a business, go to school, or simply care about the future of Durham.

More than 350 people attended these workshops to give their ideas and opinions to help shape the foundation for Durham’s new Comprehensive Plan<https://engagedurham.com/ComprehensivePlan/>, the broadest policy document a community can create that links all the important aspects of a community — land use, housing, transportation, natural environment, etc. — into one policy document that is long range in scope.

Now, an online survey  ̶  available in English<https://engagedurham.com/participate/> and Spanish<https://engagedurham.com/participar/>  ̶  is available to help collect thoughts, ideas,  and opinions about Durham from those who couldn’t attend the workshops. The survey takes about 5-10 minutes to complete and seeks to collect thoughts around two central concepts: “What does your ideal Durham look like?” and “What’s on your mind about Durham?” All public input from the survey related to transit will be used to shape the foundation for Durham’s new Transit Plan<https://engagedurham.com/durham-county-transit-plan/>.

The online surveys will close on January 30, and the next engagement phase is planned for February 2020 for the Transit Plan, and for April 2020 for the Comprehensive Plan. In this next phase, Planning staff will present back to the community what they heard from the workshops and online surveys, and ask for additional input.
