Introducing Small Project
Plan Review
The City-County Inspections Department has established a [2]new application
form for small building projects, and now offers a series of companion
checklists for home improvement applications, including:
[3]Renovations;
[4]Additions;
[5]Decks and porches; and
[6]Accessory structures.
Small Project Plan Review includes items listed above, as well as pools,
hot tubs, and solar panel installations—essentially any building activity
that is not a new primary dwelling or commercial project. While minor in
scope, these projects make up a significant portion of permitting activity.
In 2019 small projects accounted for more than one third of all City-County
building permit applications.
Many small project customers request guidance throughout the permitting
process, and the new checklists are intended to answer common questions. It
is important that permit applications include enough information to review
the project for compliance with building code requirements. Complete
applications typically reduce the number of re-reviews and corrections,
allowing staff to issue permits faster.
Small Project Plan Review is a fully digital application process, and
application fees have not changed. Visit [7]City-County Inspections for
instructions on how to apply and pay for fees online.
A Contractor ID number and PIN is needed to submit an application through
the [8]DPlans portal. After logging in, choose Form - Small Project Plan
Review under the Type of File drop-down menu.
The same Contractor ID number and PIN is used to make a payment or check
permit status via the [9]Land Development Office (LDO). To request a
Contractor ID and PIN call 919-560-4144 and press 1, or send a request by
email to dscticket at dsc.mojohelpdesk.com.
