Good morning City of Durham Yard Waste Customers:

We realize that spring means more yard waste in general, but especially now when so many of you are staying home to help fight the spread of COVID-19 and using that extra time to do work in your yards.

We want to help our customers who may be accumulating large quantities of yard waste while our weekly curbside collections are temporarily suspended, which was done on March 30 to help protect our crews from unnecessary exposure to COVID-19.

Therefore, we're providing a one-time curbside collection offer during our temporary service suspension because we don't want you feeling overwhelmed with your yard waste this month.

Here's our pick-up schedule and some important instructions:

* Set your brown yard waste cart out on your curb no later than 6 a.m. on Friday, April 17.

* Leave your cart at your curb until it is collected since our crews will be working throughout the weekend to collect all customers.

To help protect our crews, this one-time collection will be automation only, so please do not set out bags, bulky items, tree limbs, and brush as these additional items placed outside of your yard waste cart will not be collected.

Please note that we will not resume charging for yard waste service until we are back to normal operations and weekly collections of your cart.

Finally, we've heard from many of you that you have bulky items piling up as well. Normally, we note these types of set-outs each week and collect it accordingly. However, during the temporary suspension of this service, you can now request a bulky item collection beginning on Monday, April 20 by contacting Durham One Call and submitting a service request either online at https://durhamnc.gov/1439/Durham-One-Call or by calling (919) 560-1200.

As changes continue to occur with our collection efforts, we will do our best to keep you informed. One great way to receive direct notices from us is to download our free Durham Rollout App in the Apple and Google Play stores. We'll also post updates on our website at https://durhamnc.gov/4022/Covid-19 and on the City's Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages (@CityofDurhamNC).

Thank you for your patience as we strive to protect our employees from unnecessary exposure to COVID-19. We look forward to resuming our regular operations once it is safe to do so, and we hope that you and your family remain healthy during this challenging time for our community and our nation.
