Durham Hosts Virtual Meeting for Duke and Gregson Streets Re-Striping Project
DURHAM, N.C. - If you travel along Duke or Gregson streets in Durham, you'll want to mark your calendar to attend a virtual meeting later this month about re-striping sections<https://durhamnc.gov/4301/DukeGregson-Re-striping> of these two roadways for buffered bike lanes.
The City of Durham Transportation Department is asking interested residents and stakeholders to register now for their virtual public meeting<https://zoom.us/meeting/register/tJwldOiurD8jGtdCESvsXVsktWQjZbyA0SCY> on Thursday, October 29 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. to discuss plans to re-stripe sections of North and South Duke Street as well as North and South Gregson Street for buffered bike lanes plus improved crosswalks between West Morgan Street and Jackson Street. Enhancements to the existing West Chapel Hill Street bike lanes are also proposed.
During this virtual meeting, participants will be able to learn more about the proposed designs, ask questions of Transportation staff, and provide feedback to help refine the re-striping design for these roadway sections.
The re-striping project is set to begin next year following the completion of two City of Durham Water Management Department projects. The proposed scope and timeline for the re-striping projects are outlined below.
Summer 2021 - Re-striping after the American Tobacco District Waterline Replacement<https://durhamnc.gov/2780/American-Tobacco-District-Waterline-Repl>
* Re-stripe South Duke Street from Jackson Street to West Peabody Street for a buffered bike lane.
* Re-stripe South Gregson Street/Vickers Avenue from West Chapel Hill Street to West Peabody Street for a buffered bike lane.
* Re-stripe West Chapel Hill Street to add bike intersection skips at Willard Street, South Duke Street, South Gregson Street/Vickers Avenue, and the N.C. Highway 147 Ramp.
Early 2022 - Re-striping after the West Main Street Waterline Replacement<https://durhamnc.gov/3694/West-Main-Street-Waterline-Replacement>
* Re-stripe North Duke Street from West Peabody Street to West Main Street for a buffered bike lane.
