County to Observe Veterans Day Holiday
Most DCo Government Offices to Close on November 11th
Durham, N.C. - Durham County Government will close most offices in observance of the Veterans Day holiday on Wednesday, November 11, 2020. All offices will reopen with their normal hours of operation on Thursday, November 12. Please be advised that many County offices are operating virtually or may require appointments due to COVID-19 social distancing guidelines.

County to Host Annual Veterans Day Celebration Virtually
The public is invited to attend the 8th Annual Durham County Veterans Day Recognition and Celebration Program hosted virtually by the Durham County Veteran Services Department on Wednesday, November 11, at 11 a.m. Each year Durham County recognizes former active duty military service members during a celebration of patriotism, services and sacrifice.
The annual program, hosted by Veteran Services Officers Linzie Atkins and Jonathan Crooms, will be available for viewing on the Durham Television Network (DTN) as well as the County's Facebook<http://www.facebook.com/durhamcountygov>, Twitter<http://www.twitter.com/durhamcounty>, Nextdoor<https://nextdoor.com/agency-detail/nc/durham-county/durham-county-government/> and YouTube<http://www.youtube.com/dcowebmaster> accounts. DTN can be found on Spectrum Channel 8, AT&T U-verse channel 99, Frontier Communications channel 70 and Google Fiber Channel 8.
Veteran Services also invites veterans and their family members to participate in the "Drive-thru of Honor" in the Durham County Human Services Building parking lot at the corner of East Main Street and Dillard Street from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Veterans Day.

Durham County General Services
Convenience Sites
The Durham County General Services Department will close all four of its solid waste and recycling convenience sites on November 11. Durham County residents with a current 2020-2021 solid waste decal can resume disposal of garbage, recycling, yard waste and bulky items at the County's convenience sites on November 12 under normal hours of operation.

Roadside Recycling
The Durham County roadside recycling schedule for customers normally serviced the week of November 11 will not be affected. All residents are reminded to set out their recycling bins by 6 a.m. on the day of pickup, to avoid a missed collection. Residents who want to keep track of their recycling collection schedule should download the new "Durham County Recycles" mobile application. Residents can download for free the mobile app for Apple devices in the App Store or Android devices in the Google Play Store.

Durham County Library
All Durham County Library locations remain closed to the public due to COVID-19. The Library Take-Out! service will be closed on Wednesday, November 11, and resume operations on Thursday, November 12.

Durham County Public Health
The Durham County Department of Public Health will follow the Durham County Government Veterans Day holiday closing schedule.
For Public Health emergencies during the holiday closure, including communicable disease reporting, environmental health and suspected foodborne illnesses, please call 911 and ask for the Durham County Department of Public Health's response team member on-call.

Durham County Social Services
On November 11, the Durham County Department of Social Services (DSS) will close its offices for the Veterans Day Holiday. Residents are encouraged to call (919) 560-4600 to reach an on-call social worker to report child abuse and neglect or adult abuse and neglect. On Thursday, November 12, DSS will reopen and operate according to its normal hours of operation. Durham County Sheriff's Office
Durham County Sheriff's Office Patrol Division, as always, is available 24/7. The Sheriff's Administration and Records Division will be closed on November 11 and will reopen on November 12.
