Most Durham County Government Offices to Close for Thanksgiving Holiday
Durham, N.C. - Durham County Government will close most offices in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday on both Thursday, November 26 and Friday, November 27, 2020. All offices will reopen with their normal hours of operation on Monday, November 30. Please be advised that many County offices are operating virtually or may require appointments due to COVID-19 social distancing guidelines.
The County will also be closed on December 24, 25 and 28 for the Winter Holiday in December. The entire 2020 Durham County Government observed holidays schedule is available here<https://www.dconc.gov/about-dco/durham-county-government-holiday-schedule>.
Durham County General Services
Convenience Sites
The Durham County General Services Department will close all four of its Solid Waste and Recycling Convenience sites on Thursday, November 26 and Saturday, November 28. Durham County residents with a current 2020-21 solid waste decal can dispose of garbage, recycling, yard waste and bulky items at the County's Convenience Sites on Friday, November 27. The sites will return to their regular schedules on Monday, November 30.
Roadside Recycling
The Durham County roadside recycling schedule for customers normally serviced on Thursday, November 26 will have their collection on Wednesday, November 25. All residents are reminded to set out their recycling bins before 6 a.m. on the day of pickup, to avoid a missed collection. Residents who want to keep track of their recycling collection schedule should download the new "Durham County Recycles" mobile application. Residents can download the mobile app for free on Apple devices in the App Store<https://apps.apple.com/app/id1481279900> or Android devices in the Google Play Store<https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=gov.dconc.recollect.waste>.

Durham County Sheriff
Durham County Sheriff's Office patrol division, as always, is available 24/7. The Sheriff's Administration and Records Division will be closed on Thursday, November 26 and Friday, November 27 and will reopen on Monday, November 30.

Durham County Library
All Durham County Library locations remain closed to the public due to COVID-19 safety guidelines. Library Take-Out! will not operate for the Thanksgiving holiday on November 26-27. Take-Out! service will resume on Saturday, November 28.

Durham County Public Health
The Durham County Department of Public Health will follow the Durham County Government Thanksgiving holiday closing schedule.
For Public Health emergencies during the holiday closure, including communicable disease reporting, environmental health and suspected foodborne illnesses, please call 911 and ask for the Durham County Department of Public Health's response team member on-call.

Durham County Social Services
On November 26 and 27, the Durham County Department of Social Services (DSS) will close its offices for the Thanksgiving holiday. Residents are encouraged to call (919) 560-4600 to reach an on-call social worker to report child abuse and neglect or adult abuse and neglect.
