Watch the April ‘In Touch with Durham County’
This month’s guests chat Early Childhood Development and Board of Elections

Durham, N.C. – The Durham County Public Information Office continues to bring residents who are also social distancing important information on our programs and services with the “In Touch with Durham County” show for April 2021 shot completely online and safe! In this month’s episode, host Deborah Craig-Ray, General Manager of Strategic Planning and Innovation, welcomes first-time guest Cate Elander, the County’s Early Childhood Development Coordinator and frequent show visitor Derek Bowens, the Elections Director for the Durham County Board of Elections.

Elander, who works out of the Durham County Cooperative Extension office, joined Durham County at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Over the past several years, the Board of County Commissioners has made an ever increasing investment in universal Pre-K for Durham County residents. Elander joins us to discuss her role in coordinating the multiple groups working to improve the educational start of our youngest residents.

In segment two, Bowens returns to share information about the prestigious U.S. Election Assistance Commission’s 2020 Clearinghouse Award for Outstanding Innovation in Elections for the Board of Election’s voting wait-time application. He also talks about the 2020 General Election, which ran safely and efficiently during COVID-19, as well as plans for upcoming election cycles.
