Hello,

There’s an organization in Durham that I value for the work that they have
done to make Durham a great place to live. The Ellerbe Creek Watershed
Association <http://www.ellerbecreek.org/> or ECWA is in the midst of a
campaign to attract new supporters and I thought that you might be
interested in supporting their work to protect Durham’s natural resources.

Be a Champion for Durham's Nature

Each year dozens of herons and egrets choose a piece of land on the
northern edge of Durham as their rookery

They lay their eggs and raise their young creating a stunning spectacle.

This wonder of nature
<https://cts.vresp.com/c/?EllerbeCreekWatershe/da3c8e6d9d/064682a803/f4e2d2bfff>
right
on the edge of our fast-growing city is one of the things that makes Durham
a special place to live. We can walk on wildflower laden trails while we
appreciate the ripple of the creek. We can pause to watch a family of
beavers frolic in the marsh, or if we are really lucky, spot one of our
urban otter families slipping in and out of the creek. Songbirds entertain
us as we relax in our backyards. Butterflies pollinate our gardens.

We have easy access to nature in Durham because for decades residents of
Durham have proclaimed the importance of nature and open space. ECWA helps
us be a vibrant city that is a safe and welcoming place for all and values
our natural resources.

Durham residents created the Ellerbe Creek Watershed Association
<https://cts.vresp.com/c/?EllerbeCreekWatershe/da3c8e6d9d/064682a803/99fb533d0a>
as
a way to preserve and protect our land and water resources. ECWA maintains five
public nature preserves
<https://cts.vresp.com/c/?EllerbeCreekWatershe/da3c8e6d9d/064682a803/7a9a6e9315>
across
Durham. The heron rookery borders the Glennstone Preserve
<https://cts.vresp.com/c/?EllerbeCreekWatershe/da3c8e6d9d/064682a803/c250fe496a>.
ECWA work hard to keep pollution from degrading Ellerbe Creek
<https://cts.vresp.com/c/?EllerbeCreekWatershe/da3c8e6d9d/064682a803/12858f9a69>,
the urban water source that supports our wildlife and serves as a source of
drinking water.

*ECWA set a goal of recruiting 125 new champions for nature in Durham.* The
funds you contribute

–
they are hoping to raise $8,500 by May 1 - will be put to work preserving
and protecting the land and water resources of Ellerbe Creek.
