Dear Neighbors:

Preservation Durham has applied for a $50,000 appropriation from the City of
Durham through the participatory budget process to help fund Preservation
Durham's Preservation Equity Program. We would appreciate your vote in
support of the program.

Preservation Durham created the Preservation Equity Program (PEP) to help
combat gentrification and displacement in the most vulnerable historic
neighborhoods in Durham. Through PEP, Preservation Durham makes small
grants to owners of historic homes to help them stay in their homes. Grants
of up to $6,500 can be made to cover a broad range of home repairs including
roof repairs, problem windows, difficulties with heating and cooling
systems, structural problems, rotten flooring, etc. The program has been
funded to date with $60,000 in gifts from Preservation Durham supporters.
The criteria for the grants are flexible, but the grants are broadly
targeted toward historic African-American neighborhoods. The appropriation,
if received, will also help fund putting up plaques on important historic
structures in the same neighborhoods. Preservation Durham's Preservation
Equity Program is designed to correct and re-balance traditional
preservation efforts in Durham and to better tell the whole Durham story.

Help Preservation Durham receive participatory budget funds this year.
Repairs and historic home plaques can be expensive especially during a
pandemic and challenging economic times. Help us building community through
historic preservation. Email us at <mailto:pep at preservationdurham.org>

program.

The participatory budget process is determined in part by votes from the
community. Please vote for Preservation Durham's request. Visit

Durham's request can be found there.

Please share this e-mail message with your neighbors and lists.

YOU MUST VOTE BY JUNE 6!

Thank you.
