Durham County Cooperative Extension Begins Reopening to Public on June 1

Durham, N.C. - Starting Tuesday, June 1, 2021, Durham County's Cooperative Extension Office at 721 Foster St., will reopen to the public with walk-in hours on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. During these hours, members of the public are welcome to visit the office to consult with Cooperative Extension staff.

Durham County Cooperative Extension offers research-based programing and education in a wide variety of areas including: agriculture, horticulture, 4-H Youth Development, Family & Consumer Sciences, parenting, civic education, and parent & family advocacy.

The office has been closed to the public due to COVID-19 pandemic safety restrictions since March 23, 2020, when Durham County Government declared a State of Emergency. The office continued to provide all services using virtual, call-in, and socially distanced service delivery methods. Soil sample supply pick up and sample drop off remains available seven days a week with a pick up and return box located outside.

"With the increased number of community members who are vaccinated against COVID-19, we are excited to be open to the public and address in-person needs," said Donna Rewalt, Durham County Extension Director.

Visitors to the Extension Building should come to the front door of the building between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Face masks are required for entry into the building. On Fridays between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., the Cooperative Extension Welcome Baby program will continue to provide drive-through diaper and clothing distribution.

N.C. Cooperative Extension is a strategic partnership of NC State University, N.C. A&T State University, USDA's National Institute of Food and Agriculture, and local governments statewide. Extension professionals in all 100 counties, and with the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, connect millions of North Carolinians with research-based information and technology from the universities.
