Durham County EMS Academy 28 Graduates

Durham, N.C. - Earlier this month, the Office of Emergency Services Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Division graduated Academy 28 in a small ceremony with graduates, staff, and family members in attendance inside the EMS training classroom at the Administration II Building.

The seven newest members of Durham EMS as of Friday, June 11, 2021, are:

  * Dylan Foster, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
  *   Yajayra Orozco, EMT
  *   Chris Gaudreault, Paramedic
  *   Xochil Lopez, EMT
  *   Helen Singer, Advanced EMT
  *   Breanna Sikes, Paramedic
  *   Matthew Armstrong, EMT

A video presentation at the ceremony can be seen here<https://youtu.be/wslEBSsFmts>.

The graduates of Academy 28 have successfully completed 10 weeks of training and have begun their field training and evaluation program. Each graduate is assigned to an EMS officer and rides with them to complete assignments in the field. After completion of the required number of patient contacts and skills, each graduate will have a final clearance exam with the medical director. Graduates that pass the exam become independent practitioners.

"We congratulate the seven newest members of the Durham County EMS team on their graduation from the recruit academy," said Durham County EMS Chief Paramedic Mark Lockhart. "These amazing women and men will serve our community and make an impact on our system each and every day. We look forward to their service and the incredible contributions they will make."

The Durham County EMS Academy, which was implemented in October 2013 to orient new team members to Durham County and to the "Durham Way" of operations, begins its Academy 29 class on Monday, July 12. While applications for this class are closed, Durham EMS is always on the lookout for the next group of dedicated public servants that are already certified who want to be first responders in the County. For those interested, Academy 30 will begin accepting applications in early August on the Durham County Human Resources Careers Page here<https://careers.dconc.gov/go/View-All-Jobs/4564500/>.
