Hello Triangle Bikeway Stakeholders -

Thank you for all the work you are doing to get the word out about this phase of public input. We currently have just over 1,300 survey respondents. We are still hoping for more input from transit users, lower and modest income, African American, Asian, Hispanic and female residents. Any support that you can provide in reaching these groups as well as the community at-large would be great appreciated.

And please share with us where you post and any comments that you receive directly. Below is an example from Wake County that hits the bullseye for us. We want to make sure ALL comments make it into the project record.

Hope everyone has had a fun 4th and is off to a great week! -Iona + Team

Hey Eric,

Here's a rundown of where we promoted the bikeway meeting/survey. I'm including an example post with each channel, but there have been and will be additional ones. PROS also has the info about the survey to promote.

A number of people commented on the post, so they might find that interesting. Copying/pasting here in case you can't access that link.

We are from Dayton, Ohio, home of the Wright Brothers Cycle Shop and the Huffy Bicycle Co. The Miami Valley Bikeway Network located there is a 350 mile interconnected system of paved multi-use trails that is heavily utilized. The bikeway proposed here deserves our support and will become a valuable recreational asset for current and future generations.

Sounds like a great idea and use for private money, but would rather see our tax dollars used on more pressing issues.

We are so lucky to have great greenways all over the Triangle. Almost as good as Florida. Being able to cycle from Raleigh to Chapel Hill would be amazing! We frequent many of our existing greenways: Tobacco Trail, Reedy Creek Trail, Neuse River Trail. And we run into out-of-towners (Canada, New Zealand, New Jersey!) who are doing the greenway tourism thing. It's starting to make our area more of a tourist destination, which means revenue for restaurants, hotels, shops. I especially like that this trail goes by hotels. When we ride the Florida greenways, we always look for hotels located near the trails.

One more comment about a trail right beside I-40. The bike trails located right next to the Florida highways are noisy and have no shade or water fountains or bathroom opportunities. So we tend to avoid them. If the designers of the I-40 path could consider placing the paths nearer the tree line, adding plenty of exit/entry gates into neighborhoods with amenities, and planting greenery between the path and the highway for noise reduction. Also, Florida has police on bikes patrolling their greenways frequently. I have never seen any on our greenways - ever.

Great ideas. IIRC city council voted to fund additional officers to patrol greenways exclusively. Which is a great idea.

PLEASE provide more notice so people can plan to attend!!

Hope this moves forward - the greenway system is a tremendous asset to the community so hopefully we can keep expanding it where possible

I'm supportive towards any project that preserves natural habitat and greenspace in the Triangle and surrounding areas these days. Now if the powers that be would do more to rein in some of the out of control residential and commercial growth we are seeing this area would be more tolerable for current residents to live in and enjoy.

It would be great if Garner was tied into the greater Greenway system. This meeting has nothing to do with Garner. We keep getting overlooked in transportation improvements of all kinds.

Let me know if you need anything else. Thanks!

Alice
