Soil Sample Service Ends for Season on November 22, 2021

Durham, N.C. - Durham County Cooperative Extension will temporarily stop accepting soil samples for analysis of pH and nutrient levels on Monday, November 22, 2021. The agency will resume collection on April 1, 2022.

Durham County Cooperative Extension offers free soil sampling materials and instructions to community members through their self-service soil sample box at the Extension's location at 721 Foster St., in downtown Durham all year long. Between April and November, the office also delivers soil samples to the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Agronomic Services lab on behalf of clients.

To learn how to deposit your soil sample at the Durham County Cooperative Extension office before November 22, visit https://go.ncsu.edu/durhamsoiltesting.

After November 22, 2021, community members can still have their soil analyzed by taking samples to the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Agronomic Services lab at 4300 Reedy Creek Rd., Raleigh, NC 27607 or by mailing samples to NCDA&CS Agronomic Division; Soil Testing Section; 1040 Mail Service Center; Raleigh, NC 27699-1040

Peak-season soil testing fees are set to take effect December 1, 2021 through March 31, 2022, pending final approval by the N.C. Board of Agriculture at its meeting on Friday, November 19, 2021. Submitting soil samples to the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Agronomic Services lab before that date will mean growers and homeowners can avoid the $4 per sample fee.
