Good morning,

In recent years, we have heard from community members in Durham that urban
flooding and creek pollution are growing concerns of many residents in
neighborhoods surrounding Goose Creek and Ellerbe Creek.

In response to these concerns, ECWA has spent the last year working with
community partners to steer the development of a new community-based
participatory research program called *Creek Watchers
<https://www.ellerbecreek.org/creekwatchers.html>.* The goal of the program
is to boost the amount of flood and pollution reporting in our city. This
is important because without knowing where problems are occurring,
solutions may never be proposed, or may be misguided and inequitable.

Creek Watchers are members of our community (like you or the members of
your community!) who care for the health of our residents and the health of
our creeks. By sharing the flooding and pollution we see, we can better
advocate for fixes to these problems that we and our neighbors are
experiencing on a daily basis.

The first cohort of Creek Watchers will begin in *February 2022*. We would
like to invite you to share this information within your community to
anyone who you think would like to participate or simply be connected to
this community-led science work moving forward. Stipends are available for
participation in the program, and we will provide all necessary training
and resources needed to participate.

Please check out the attached flier and program overview for more
information and if interested, RSVP here

Don't hesitate to contact me directly if you have any questions or
concerns.

*We're in this creek together!*

Happy Holidays,

Steve
