Subject: Your Support Is Needed (Carver Street Development)

Good Morning Bragtown Residents & Durham Community Supporters,

We the Bragtown Community Association are putting out a Call to Action.
Please leverage your community power to reach out to the Planning
Commission letting them know that you are in support of the Carver Street
Assemblage project which supports family and senior living apartments that
will be affordable for Bragtown residents.

There are people that have lived in Bragtown for generations that are being
forced to move from Bragtown every day due to predatory buying, property
tax increases from 100 to 300%, low income/fixed income, and residents
getting older without home repair programs in place. The people of Bragtown
would like to be able to live their lives out with dignity. Having spaces
to stay that look like other market-rate developments that you see
throughout Durham brings dignity and an ability to stay in the neighborhood
even with these other forces at play.

We have worked long and hard alongside the developers to advocate for this
opportunity for Bragtown residents. We feel this work can serve as a model
that can be replicated beyond Bragtown to serve Durham and beyond. We thank
everyone in advance for your support and advocacy.

If you wish to be a part of this process and desire for your voice to be
heard please:

1) Send an email to: DurhamPlanningCommission at durhamnc.gov

2) Copy and paste the following template into your email:

Dear Planning Commission,

I’m writing to you to express my support for the Carver Street Assemblage
rezoning petition. Bragtown needs more affordable housing and 198 units of
affordable rental housing at/below 60% AMI is an important step forward for
the neighborhood. I also support the Developer’s separate efforts to secure
gap funding within Durham’s Gap Funding RFP that will enable the project to
include Senior (55 years+) and 30% AMI rental units.

Thank you,
