*Creek Week is finally here! Time to dust off your waders and head to the
nearest waterway.*

Now is the perfect time to get out in your local creeks and streams for a
little Spring Cleaning, because most of the bugs aren't out yet, the
vegetation is down, and so is the heat! Keeping our streets and waterways
clean is important, because we need water to live and so does everything

*Save the date for Durham BioBlitz!*

A *BioBlitz* is a community science initiative to help record and catalog
the biodiversity of a given area within a certain time period. The Durham
BioBlitz is a great way to connect people to their environment while
generating useful data for science and conservation and having fun!

*The 2022 Durham-wide BioBlitz will take place from April 29 - May 8  *

Volunteers will use the *iNaturalist*

app to make observations during the project timeline, and expert
identifiers will help turn these observations into data points that can be
used in scientific research.

*Start your own "Pollinator Pocket"!*
In celebration of Earth Day, Keep Durham Beautiful is mailing sunflower
seed packets to the first 300 Durham residents or organizations that fill
out our seed request form (one per address). Seeds will be mailed no
earlier than mid-April.

Plant these seeds in a special place where you and our friendly pollinators
will enjoy the blooms. Pollinators rely on flower nectar and pollen as a
food source. Give them a “pocket” of flowers where they can find nutrients

*Water Conservation  Poster Contest*

The *Department of Water Management

sponsors an annual poster contest open to all Durham students in grades K
through 8 (public, private, and home schools).

Students are invited to use their artistic talents to celebrate drinking
water and to promote water conservation. This year’s theme is: *“Slow the
Flow, Save H2O.”*

Local winners will receive special recognition from the City’s Department
of Water Management and will represent Durham in a statewide competition!

We're teaming up with the *Friends of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail*

for a *Trailhead Cleanup Event*! Join us on *Saturday, March 26th from 9am
to 12pm* to remove litter from parking lots and trailheads along the *Falls
Lake Trail West* section of Segment 10. Volunteers must be 18 or older as
some of these segments are close to busy roads and could be dangerous.

Did you know that you can check out seeds at the library? The *Digging
Durham Seed Library* offers vegetable, herb, and flower seeds that you can
take home and plant. Seeds are available to check out at Main Library, East
Regional, North Regional, South Regional, Southwest Regional and the
Stanford L. Warren branch. A library card isn't need to check out seeds
packets.

The *Enviro-Art Gallery* is a showcase of student and professional artwork
designed to highlight the beauty and struggles of nature. Throughout the
month of April, artwork will be on display in the *Duke* *Rubenstein Arts
Center* with a grand opening on *Monday, April 4th at 7pm.*

Volunteer Spotlight: On March 6th, 9 volunteers with the Duke *MEMPDC*

Sustainability Club joined us and 24 other volunteers to plant 139 native
trees and shrubs in 3 different locations on the campus of Southern High
