New County Manager Dr. Kimberly J. Sowell Joins Us for June Edition of ‘In Touch with Durham County’

Durham, N.C. – The Durham County Public Information Office continues to bring residents important information on our programs and services with the “In Touch with Durham County” show for June 2022<https://youtu.be/dKIatyu3eEk>.

In this month’s episode<https://youtu.be/dKIatyu3eEk>, host Deborah Craig-Ray, General Manager of Strategic Planning and Innovation, notes that we are excited to welcome new County Manager Dr. Kimberly J. Sowell on the show for the first time.

Dr. Sowell took over the reins as the eighth Durham County Manager in mid-March of 2022. A North Carolina native, she comes to the community after a successful stint as Assistant City Manager in Greensboro. Prior to that, Dr. Sowell worked in both the corporate and academic worlds.

During our conversation, she discusses the transition from City to County Government, how much the staff here has helped guide her through the Fiscal Year 2022-2023 Budget Ordinance process, and how important it has been for her to meet as many Durham County Government employees as possible.

She also talks about what made Durham County the place she wanted to be. Dr. Sowell speaks about her plans for the organization in the short and long term, plus what guides her as the journey begins for she and her family in Durham County.
