Rural Engagement Session
------------------------------
The Durham City-County Planning Department is seeking out more
opportunities for rural residents of Durham County to engage in the new
Comprehensive Plan. We are working with Preserve Rural Durham to host a
session and would like to invite you to participate and invite others you
think would be interested:

*Date*: Thursday, June 9, 2022
*Time*: 6:30 PM
*Location*: Oak Grove Ruritan Club, 301 Stallings Road, Durham, NC 27703
<https://goo.gl/maps/bsU1mm52kCmRShgn7>
*Lead Staff Attending*: Scott Whiteman, Planning Manager, Policy and
Urban Design

The plan for this session is to share information on the draft plan, have
time for questions and answers, and provide copies of draft policies that
staff is asking the community for input on and copies of surveys to share
that input now through the end of June. Staff can also share online
opportunities for input with those who have access to do so that way. Those
online resources include:

   - Here is where you can find general information about this phase of
   engagement: https://durham.mysocialpinpoint.com/comprehensiveplan
   - Here is where you can see the online survey and priority policies for
eight different topics (the policies are listed below the survey on this
   page): https://durham.mysocialpinpoint.com/comprehensiveplan/policies
   - Here is where you can get more information on the background of the
policy development, review the glossary for the policies, and download the
   entire spreadsheet of 227 policies:

In addition to planning this session, we are reaching out to a couple of
the Ruritan Clubs to see if it would make sense to have staff attend an
upcoming meeting of the club.

Please also note that this will not be the last time for the community to
digest and provide feedback on the draft plan. We will continue to take
feedback even after this particular engagement period wraps up. We will
continue to incorporate feedback as we make revisions this summer. In the
fall we will release a draft of the full plan and will again seek feedback
and incorporate revisions before the plan is finalized for adoption.
Residents will have opportunities to review, ask questions, get answers,
and provide comments up until and through the adoption process which we
hope to begin this winter.

Any questions about this session or the plan, please reach out to
ENGAGEDurham at durhamnc.gov, or call Lisa Miller at 919-560-4137 ext: 28270

Thank you all for your advocacy for rural residents to have more of a voice
in this process and for your help in reaching residents in the County.
