*BOARD OF TRUSTEES*

*Three long-term Kresge trustees retire from board *

Last week marked a significant turning point in The Kresge Foundation’s
governance and leadership history: Paul Hillegonds, Elaine Rosen, and Nancy
Schlichting retired as trustees after serving for 18 years each. The trio
joined Kresge’s board in 2004 and played a significant role as the
foundation transformed from a capital challenge granting institution to
strategic philanthropy.

*EDUCATION PROGRAM*
*Cowen Institute receives grant to expand college and career counseling
collaboratives *

The availability of competent, professional college and career counseling
services in schools is key to ensuring that students have the tools to
succeed in college and graduate. The Cowen Institute at Tulane University
recently received a grant from Kresge’s Education Program to support its
work to increase college access, persistence and success among New Orleans
youth. The grant will expand the New Orleans College and Career Counseling
Collaborative, College Persistence Collaborative, and the New Orleans-wide
FAFSA completion campaign.

*DIVERSITY, EQUITY & INCLUSION*
*Recommended reading and podcast list for Pride Month and Immigrant
Heritage Month*

Kresge’s Anna Cruz, managing director of Strategic Learning, Research &
Evaluation, has curated a reading and podcast list that highlights queer
artists and explores gender identity, immigrant experiences, and
self-discovery. Here are her recommendations:

   - Radio Menea
   <https://thekresgefoundation.cmail20.com/t/i-l-qlkjhhd-jutudjjdjk-h/> is
a podcast hosted by Verónica Bayetti Flores and Miriam Zoila Pérez – two
queer Latinx friends with wildly different music tastes. Their Pride
   Month episode
   <https://thekresgefoundation.cmail20.com/t/i-l-qlkjhhd-jutudjjdjk-k/>
highlights queer Latinx musicians and features bachata, gay rage, and
   tropical vibes.
   - I’m always finding joy and thought-provoking reflections in visual
   artist Julio Salgado’s Illegal Blog
   <https://thekresgefoundation.cmail20.com/t/i-l-qlkjhhd-jutudjjdjk-u/>.
Salgado, an undocumented, queer, and migrant activist, offers insightful
and witty reflections from a personal point of view.
   - Felix Ever After
   <https://thekresgefoundation.cmail20.com/t/i-l-qlkjhhd-jutudjjdjk-o/> by
Kacen Callender is a wonderful young adult novel about a transgender teen
grappling with identity while falling in love.
   - I recommend Prentis Hemphill's Finding Our Way podcast for those
invested in practicing the future we want to see. This podcast is an
exploration of ourselves and the skills we need to create and embody the
world we want. I recommend these two episodes: Remembering
   <https://thekresgefoundation.cmail20.com/t/i-l-qlkjhhd-jutudjjdjk-b/>
and Breaking Binaries and Intersex Justice
   <https://thekresgefoundation.cmail20.com/t/i-l-qlkjhhd-jutudjjdjk-n/>.
