City of Durham to Observe Independence Day



DURHAM, N.C. - The City of Durham will observe Independence Day<https://www.durhamnc.gov/calendar.aspx?EID=6867> on Monday, July 4.  Most City offices, including City Hall and all non-emergency City operations, will be closed to the public.


The Solid Waste Management Department will be closed on Monday, July 4. All curbside collections for garbage, recycling, and yard waste will be delayed by one business day this week with Friday yard waste customers receiving their curbside collections on Monday, July 11. The Waste Disposal and Recycling Center, Yard Waste Facility, and the Household Hazardous Waste Center<https://durhamnc.gov/898/Disposal-Facilities> will also be closed on Monday, July 4. To sign up for collection day alerts and reminders for holiday service changes, visit the department's webpage<https://durhamnc.gov/3025/Find-Your-Collection-Day> or download their free Durham Rollout smartphone app available in the Apple<https://apps.apple.com/app/id1431854760> and Google Play<https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=gov.durhamnc.recollect.waste> stores.


Durham Parks and Recreation<https://www.dprplaymore.org/> will close its administrative office and all facilities on Monday, July 4. City Lakes will be open under their normal schedules from Friday, July 1 through Monday, July 4. The Park Durham Customer Service Center<https://www.parkdurham.org/> will be closed on Monday, July 4. On City-designated holidays, downtown parking is free in on-street parking spaces, City-owned parking garages, and City-owned surface parking lots.



Durham One Call<https://durhamnc.gov/1439/Durham-One-Call> will be closed on Monday, July 4. Residents may submit an online service request<https://durhamnc.gov/1439/Durham-One-Call>, use the free Durham One Call smartphone app available in the Apple<https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/durham-one-call/id1201890986?mt=8> and Google Play<https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.accela.durham_nc&hl=en> stores, or leave a message at (919) 560-1200. Durham One Call will forward all requests for City services to the appropriate department on the next business day.



Water main break<https://durhamnc.gov/1344/Report-Water-Main-Breaks> and sewer overflow<https://durhamnc.gov/1346/Report-Sewer-Overflows-Backups> calls for service placed after-hours, weekends or on City-recognized holidays should be directed to the Water Management Department's after-hours emergency phone number at (919) 560-4344, which will dispatch on-call crews.
