Homeowners, landlords, businesses, and non-profits are encouraged to participate in the Solarize the Triangle program launched this week. This program is run out of the Triangle J Council of Governments and includes 11 local governments, including Durham County and the City of Durham. Solarize the Triangle<http://solarizethetriangle.com/> provides an opportunity to install solar energy and battery power at your home, business or non-profit organization. Through this unique campaign, residents and businesses can save on the ordinary cost of a system through combined purchasing with others in the Triangle plus the availability of a federal tax credit. The City and County are providing funding for low-income homes to participate in the program. Sign up for a free assessment https://www.solarcrowdsource.com/campaign/the-triangle/

A free, open-to-the public community celebration will take place August 10th from 6-8 p.m. at the North Carolina Museum of Art located at 2110 Blue Ridge Road<https://www.google.com/maps/place/North+Carolina+Museum+of+Art/@35.8098857,-78.7025784,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x89acf5d3536f686b:0x841b73fc133ba241!8m2!3d35.8098857!4d-78.7025784> in Raleigh. Participants will learn more and have the ability to ask questions of the solar provider and other community partners. The event will also be live-streamed on the Solar Crowdsource Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/SolarizetheTriangle

Solarize the Triangle is a community-based group-purchasing program<https://www.solarcrowdsource.com/how-it-works-solarize/> for solar energy, battery storage and other clean-energy technologies. The initiative is designed to serve residents, businesses and nonprofits to become more resilient, reduce energy expenses, and save on the cost of renewable-energy systems by obtaining volume discounts on materials and installation services. Solarize campaigns are driven by community group purchasing. Based on a tiered "bulk" purchasing concept, the more local residents and business owners who contract for their solar installations through the program, the more savings accrue to all participating property owners.

In addition to the City of Durham and Durham County, other participating Triangle communities include: Chatham County, City of Raleigh, Town of Cary, Town of Chapel Hill, Town of Hillsborough, Town of Carrboro, Town of Apex, Town of Morrisville and Orange County. The Triangle J Council of Governments and Solar CrowdSource are facilitating the launch of Solarize the Triangle with Triangle local governments.

The objectives of the regional program include:

*         Making solar energy more affordable: lower the cost of solar energy through the power of group-purchasing and reduced acquisition costs. Savings passed to residents of the Triangle region;

*         Making solar energy more accessible: contractor(s), materials and pricing will be highly vetted for best practices using a competitive bid process;

     *   Education and community engagement: widespread community engagement, education and outreach activities through town hall meetings, workshops, solar "open house" gatherings, and outreach through local community groups and events;

* Promoting solar-positive policies: encourage local governments to adopt streamlined solar energy permitting policies and fair utility distributed generation policies; and

* Giving back: Solarize the Triangle and selected contractors will use a portion of campaign proceeds to donate a solar energy system to a deserving local nonprofit organization and/or help to underwrite solar-energy systems for qualified low- and moderate-Income families with high energy burdens.

Yes Solar Solution and Solar Crowdsource are the exclusive partners through Solarize the Triangle and the City and County do not have any other community solar programs. Please beware of other solar companies stating or inferring that they are associated with either the City or County.
