Most Durham County Government Offices to Close for Winter Holidays

Durham, N.C. - Durham County Government will close most offices in observance of the winter holidays on Friday, December 23, Monday, December 26 and Tuesday, December 27, 2022. All offices will reopen with their normal hours of operation on Wednesday, December 28. County government offices will also close in recognition of the New Year's Day holiday on Monday, January 2, 2023. All offices will reopen with normal hours on Tuesday, January 3.

Durham County General Services
Convenience Sites
The Durham County General Services Department will close the Redwood and Northern Solid Waste and Recycling Convenience sites on December 23, 24 and 26, as well as January 2, 2023. The Parkwood Convenience site will be closed on December 23, 26 and 27, as well as January 2, 2023. Durham County residents with a current 2022-23 solid waste decal can dispose of garbage, recycling, yard waste and bulky items at the County's Convenience Sites during their regular schedules<https://www.dconc.gov/county-departments/departments-f-z/general-services/solid-waste-recycling-and-litter-control/durham-county-convenience-sites>.

Roadside Recycling
The Durham County roadside recycling schedule for customers in unincorporated areas of the County will not be affected on either holiday.
All residents are reminded to set out their recycling bins before 6 a.m. on the day of pickup, to avoid a missed collection. Residents who want to keep track of their recycling collection schedule should download the "Durham County Recycles" mobile application. Residents can download the mobile app for free on Apple devices in the App Store<https://apps.apple.com/app/id1481279900> or Android devices in the Google Play Store<https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=gov.dconc.recollect.waste>.

Durham County Sheriff
Durham County Sheriff's Office Patrol Division, as always, is available 24/7. The Sheriff's Administration and Records Division will be closed on Friday, December 23; Monday, December 26 and Tuesday, December 27. It will reopen with normal hours on Wednesday, December 28.
The Sheriff's Administration and Records Division will also be closed on Monday, January 2, 2023, and reopen on Tuesday, January 3.

Durham County Library
All Durham County Library locations will be closed from Friday, December 23 - Tuesday, December 27 for the winter holiday, reopening on Wednesday, December 28 at normal hours<https://durhamcountylibrary.org/hours-and-locations/>. All library locations will also close on Monday, January 2, 2023, and reopen at normal hours on Tuesday, January 3.

Durham County Public Health
The Durham County Department of Public Health will follow the Durham County Government winter holiday and New Year's Day closing schedules.
For Public Health emergencies during the holiday closures, including communicable disease reporting, environmental health and suspected foodborne illnesses, please call 911 and ask for the Durham County Department of Public Health's response team member on-call.

Durham County Social Services
On December 23-27, the Durham County Department of Social Services (DSS) will close its offices for the winter holidays. DSS will also closed Monday, January 2, 2023, for the New Year's Day, re-opening on Tuesday, January 3.
Residents are encouraged to call 919-560-4600 to reach an on-call social worker to report child abuse and neglect. Call 984-243-1280 to report adult abuse and neglect to an on-call social worker.

Durham County Cooperative Extension
The Durham County Cooperative Extension will be closed from December 23-27 for the winter holidays. The Extension will reopen with normal business hours on Wednesday, December 28. The office will also close on Monday, January 2, 2023, for New Year's Day and reopen on Tuesday, January 3.
During the holiday closures, the public may drop off soil sample boxes and pick up sample supplies from the outside station located in the blue box to the right of the Extension building at 721 Foster St.

Board of County Commissioners
The Durham Board of County Commissioners' first Work Session of the New Year will be held at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, January 3, 2023. This is a change from the normally scheduled first Monday of the month due to New Year's Day. The first Regular Session of 2023 will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, January 9. All meetings are held in Commissioners Chambers, 2nd Floor of the Administration I Building, 200 East Main Street.
